Thanks for the reply. The people at MIS had some concerns.

To be honest, I haven't even bothered to load my PS 7 yet. It's been
sitting on the floor for months. At some point I'll analyze where this
concern is coming from.

The posts I've read on the subject indicated to me that the grayscale to RGB
mapping functions have been changed slightly. That is, when the mode of the
image is changed, different RGB color spaces -- in particular sRGB and Adobe
RGB (1998) -- do slightly different translations. In both the resulting
file will have R=G=B for each value, but the shadow density values are
different. Adobe RGB is relatively linear; sRGB compresses the shadow
tones. This is also where PS 7 appears to have altered things slightly. I
assume that R=G=B still.

If these assumptions are correct, there will be a slight difference in the
density of the shadows -- more or less contrast -- but the same dmax. If
this is all correct, the differences will be slight.

Paul,

I've been using PS7 with MIS-VM and your curves for months now with (what I
consider) outstanding results. Two prints that I printed using MIS-VM, PS7,
your curves, and an Epson 1270 on either Somerset Velvet or Royal Plush
(don't remember which at the moment) were good enough to win 3rd place in
the pro division and Best of Show respectively at the 2002 Utah State Fair.
Others have won anything from 1st place to honorable mentions in local Salt
Lake Photographic Print Society competitions.

It works just fine with MIS VM Inks. I've been using it since it came
out with MIS VM inks.
