As I wrote the other day, while I'm not sure about selling a printer on the yahoo site, our national site used to have a great set up for discussions, another for buying and selling equipment, and lots more! This is what I think would be very useful for all of us, not to mention that much more communication would start to happen within ASMP, which is would be terrific. There's so little of that for the past number of years, it's a bit difficult to remember how terrific and useful this organization used to be! I don't quite understand why some people want us to move from Yahoo to some other group that exists primarily for the owners or producers. We have a sophisticated site that can handle our needs very well, and additionally can help us extend our professional friendships. Isn't that what we're supposed to be about? I will chime in. I was the one who setup the EpsonWideFormat Group with groups.io <http://groups.io/> Yes, everything gets transferred over by groups.io <http://groups.io/> . It takes a few days and you can keep this group going until complete. It is certainly a better choice over Yahoo Groups, everyone is happy with it. Mark Co-moderator EpsonWideFormat

If I may.. please.. It's a bit bigger than what's on the surface.. As a user you only see what you see but what you can't see is what goes on in the background. I'm not trying to knock Yahoo.. so that is not what it's about ok? I have test groups set up now on both Google and Groups.io.. So I get to see what is possible.. What I can tell you is that real support or problem solving on Yahoo is a total joke when requested by either users or by group administrators.. It's actually funny ..except that it's got to be a brutal reality for those that try to run or manage the group. So what I'm trying to say is if you're a Yahoo fan then maybe step up and do the work. How hard are you willing to do that for free. Mark has worked his ass off for us.. plus a few I'm sure that I don't know who they are.. What I'm struggling with is actually quite simple. Why would anyone promote a continuance of a situation that is potentially marginal and has limited abilities to really control the deliverable.. RU that naive..? Do you not care about the people that sponsor and work at this for free to help us continue our interactions and sharing.. So frankly I suggest step up or humble up.. I'm not trying in any way to promote a bail out of Yahoo .Simply put what I am suggesting is that we need to listen to those that run our groups and try to make it work for them.. Plus they know 5X more than we do about what it really takes.. They are the ones that stepped up to serve us.. We need to respect and honor that.. So I think we need to listen.. and maybe maybe step up a tad as I'm sure they would appreciate the help.. jimbo

The fact is that the wheels have been coming off at Yahoo for some time and now that Verizon bought them, there's a good chance that features like groups might not continue unchanged, or maybe at all. Aside from Yahoo's shares in Alibaba, Verizon is only interested in combining their AOL and Yahoo members so they can be data mined and marketed to advertisers, and groups barely play a part in that. The transition to groups.io has been seamless and a positive step where I've seen it take place. So why not do it? I also have a serious issue with Verizon politically because they've been suing to end net neutrality to ultimately monopolize the net. I don't like supporting large corporations that want to own the internet and become Big Brother to us all.

You can search both Google and Groups.io.. Most object to Google due to data mining but fact is Yahoo does it also.. In truth I think we need to see what Verizon does with Yahoo.. Currently of the three options Yahoo is certainly the worst. Google has some pretty kool features to it.. I think I personally like groups.io the best.. When Yahoo started their group effort I understand they bought the technology from groups.io so that might say something.. All kidding aside there are features on both that are pretty slick.. so their different.. My honest suggestion would be to go on each and open a group so you can play …You can always delete the group later but don’t name it what you’d finally do as you can’t reuse that. Google has a few interesting features ..You can actually set up conferences limited to maybe 10 people or so I think.. so you could actually do a class of sorts on it.. so in your case that might be very appealing…both of them are set up well to use sub groups and key words so much superior organization than Yahoo. You can get to a tech person on groups.io pretty easily …On Yahoo you’d have to be Obama or the Pope maybe I think. No kidding go on both and play .. We are used to Yahoo and while it works and seems ok most have no clue what’s possible with the other two.. So maybe it’s not about just making a change ..if everyone is fine with Yahoo that …the old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.. I think it should also be about , however, what’s missing what can you do on the other groups that you can’t on Yahoo.. jimbo

Being able to search the group's posts is important, as is the likelihood they'll be around 10 years from now. Not knowing anything about Groups.io makes me initially think Google might be better platform, but I have not studied the situation. Paul www.PaulRoark.com No virus found in this message.
