Found: waste tank resetter for Epson 3800/3880

2013-07-19 by davidkachel

For those of you who have had a hard time finding these or who, like me, absolutely refuse to pay you-know-who the ridiculous sum of $100 for one, this guy has them for $40 plus $6.40 for priority mail:

http://store.inkjetcarts.us/epson-pro-3800-3880-waste-tank-chip-resetter-p6446.aspx

Just got mine and reset two waste tanks right away. No problems.

David,

You purchase a waste tank from Atlex.com for $18.00.

Must be mislabeled. (ON details page, it says it is for the 4900) The
resetter for the 3800/3880 is blue and shaped differently.

I can't recall where I got mine, but I think it was simply the chip resetter for a 3880.

I took the stuffing out of a used waste tank, drilled a small hole near the bottom, front of the tank, glued a rigid plastic tube into the hole and ran a flexible tube from that down to a gallon plastic juice container secured to the side of the printer stand. Every once in a while I need to reset the chip, and eventually I will need to replace the container. ...It's pretty frightening to see how much ink goes "down the drain", so to speak.

Just caught this thread in the middle. If you are looking for a waste tank, I got one for my 2000 a few years back from this British company:
http://www.octoink.co.uk/

I live in the state and it took less than a week to arrive. It is very well built. I got the solo plus waste tank.

Like Pierre, I've got very good luck with OctoInkjet tanks. The owner is very pleasant to deal with, conscientious and personable - not to mention a well-engineered product.

Hi David,
I'm not sure if your remark was sarcastic, or if the product is so good that people go back
to them each time they need a new waste tank for the 3800/3880?

Thanks,

Clay Price

According to the OctoInk site, the waste kits come with a "reset utility" (Windows only). It seems that they might have one that works with Epsons such as the 3880.

Electrical chip resetters work okay, but they do require removing the tank to access the chip. This increases the risk of an "adverse event", so it would be nice have an alternative that was solely software-based.

Does anyone know anything about these reset utilities? OctoInk seems to sell them only as part of their waste tank kits.

Thanks!
