input 9/10

input 9/10

Is it possible to connect a simple tom pad and a simple cymbal pad to
input 9/10 and control them separately (playing different sounds)?
What do I need?

Thanks for all answers

If I do the job correctly, you shouldn't need any more answers. Yes,
you can connect a mono cymbal and a mono tom to 9/10. Use a mono
cable out from each into a TRS splitter, or "Y" adapter, which has
two mono female leads to accept your tom and cymbal cables and a
single stereo male connector at the base of the "Y" for the 9/10
input. (Do not use a splitter that has dual stereo ends; you will not
get one of your components to work.) Then just set the respective
voices and triggers for the two pads.

If you use a stereo pad in 9/10, like the 65S variety of snare and
cymbal, you will not get a rim voice, since 9/10 cannot accommodate
the rim switch that makes these pads "stereo." However, instead of
two mono pads, you could use another company's dual-zone pad (Yamaha
doesn't make anything that corresponds, except the BP80 bar pad),
which typically feature a bow and bell for a cymbal or a rim and body
for a snare. Only one dual-zone component will work in 9/10 at a
time; it's like having two independent mono pads.

OGD,

Can you believe it (I certainly can)? After all this time, I still
left something out. That's the last time I challenge myself. Drumb
and Drumber, indeed.

Another option to buying a splitter is to use the built-in splitter in the
KP65. Plug the mono pad into the KP65 and the KP65 into zones 9/10. That
will leave you with a stereo input in zone 1. You can then uses a stereo
cymbal (pad/rim) in zone 1. This will allow adding a mono TP65 and a stereo
PCY65S pad to the kit without using a splitter cable.

Even another option:

Buy the splitter cable and move your Tom3 TP65 mono pad from zone 5
to zone 9 and move your Ride1 PCY65 mono pad from zone 6 to zone 10.

This will leave you with one stereo zone 5 and one Stereo (3-zone)
Zone 6.

Then the Zone 5 could be used with any stereo cymbal or pad. Just
remember that on the base DtxpressII module it does not have choking
capabilities on zone 5, if you choose to use it with a stereo cymbal
pad like the PCY65S/PCY80S.

You could then use Zone 6, which has the ability to choke, with a
PCY65S Cymbal pad. It could also be used with the soon to be release
PCY150S three zone cymbal (bell/bow/edge) cymbal pad to add a three
zone pad to your kit.

Zone 6 could also be used with a TP65S, so that you could add three
sounds (pad,rim1,rim2)

Hey, Ed (or anyone!) - I am happy to use a Y-splitter on my 9/10
input to connect to separate pads. But my problem is that no
retailer I know of stocks them here in Adelaide, Australia. I have
had to make do with a Y-splitter that goes from a stereo "phono"
plug to two mono "RCA" sockets, on which I have to add two adaptors.
It's not the best setup! Can anyone direct me to an on-line store,
so I can order the Real McCoy?

Nick,

Drumbalaya.com sells the Hosa version, YPP117. I'm willing to bet
that Musiansfriend, zzounds, SameDayMusic, et al. will have them,
too. The only problem will be to find out which one has the best
shipping policy to Australia. It's a small item. Any online stores
down under?

Hi Nick

I think I have found a lead at Venue Music in Sydney with free
delivery anywhere in Australia!! Check out:
http://www.venuemusic.com.au/Products.asp?ProdID=3164

I have not used one of these leads but it sounds like it is the right
type.

Roger,

NIce find. Given the male connectors at the split, it's more an
insert cable than an adapter, but the runs seem to be long enough.
Thanks to you, NIck should be in business.

A belated thank you, Roger. I may need two of those cables
and a male-to-male adaptor, but it's a start!

          (Cable 1) (Cable 2)

input 9/10

2004-06-16 by vap19592000

Hello every one. My name is Bobby, and I am new to the group. I
recently purchased the DTXpress2.
I know there has been many posts regarding the subject on "input 9/10
connections"
Here is another one. I will be using a Y STEREO cable (stereo in,
mono x 2 out) and plug it into input 9/10. Mono A to pad A, mono B to
pad B. How/where do I go to to assign the pads?? I wish to connect 2
pads for 2 different sounds using input 9/10.
It seems when I have completed the above steps, I receive the SAME
sound on BOTH pads.

Off the top of my head, my guess is that your "Y" adaptor is actually
stereo at each end. What you need is a true TRS splitter, which
breaks down as you wrote above. Check to make sure that you have one.
If the adaptor is correct, the pads should split into 9 and 10
naturally when you strike them and carry their own parameters.
Otherwise, you access only one input.
