Qestion # 1...here we go.

Qestion # 1...here we go.

2003-08-06 by narrowgatedrummer

Allright, enough jamming on this thing...LOL
Can you take say the "crash" and put a "synth" on it?
Is this done in the voice edit mode?.
I really dont understand what the manual is saying about that.
I want to leave everything just the way it is except for either the
crash or the ride. I want to make that a "special effect" for a song
that we are doing. Preferably a synth sound or something.
Please advise...:)

Billy,

I'm assuming that you found a default kit that you like but that
you'd like to change one of the cymbals to something else. If it's an
effect your're looking for, use the voice menu for that input (ride
is 6; crash is 7). On the first page, you'll notice that the default
voice is given a code like C 041, which would be the listing for
Cymbal sound number 41 in the back of the manual. Make sure that the
cursor is on the "C". Then scroll through the letters until you get
to the effect letter, which is the last one, I think. Is it "E"?
Move the cursor now to the number beside the "E" and scroll through
the numbers from 1 to whatever until you get an effect that you like.
Check the manual for what it's called; unfortunately, the name
doesn't always give away what the voice is. Occe you've settled on a
voice letter/number, you can scroll through subsequent pages in the
voice menu to set other parameters. Finally, you'll have to consult
the trigger menu to set the gain, min velocity, and rejection
parameters appropriately. You won't finalize these values
immediately; it'll take some tweaking over time. When you're done,
for the time being, press the "save" button on the module and follow
the directions. You'll have created your first user kit (49). You can
give it a name if you want.

I hope this is helpful. I haven't done this myself for some time, and
I don't have a manual nearby. Plus I'm replying on my way out the
door. If I've botched something, maybe some kind soul will rectify
it. Look at least at the manual to see how the buttons on the front
of the module affect the screen in the menus. Then you should be able
to carry out the instructions that I gave. I don't have time to run
through the manual controls now.

As an alternative to dedicating the pad to a one-time use sound, you
could use the velocity cross-fade to set a very high cross-over point
with the "special" sound playable when you smack the cr@p out of the
cymbal during the song. :) This leaves you with a "regular" set and all
your pads until the moment when u need the "special" sound. This might
also be somthing you could try with one of the zones on your snare. If
you don't use the rim-shot very often you could assign it to the
"special" sound. The reason I'm suggesting this is that I find the stock
number of pads to be a bit limiting when you're trying to play regular
patterns and fills and it might be a bit contstraining to you to "lose" a
pad to a sinlge sound that might only get played once or twice a during
the song....

Enable "key off" in voice edit.
