Billy,

I'm assuming that you found a default kit that you like but that
you'd like to change one of the cymbals to something else. If it's an
effect your're looking for, use the voice menu for that input (ride
is 6; crash is 7). On the first page, you'll notice that the default
voice is given a code like C 041, which would be the listing for
Cymbal sound number 41 in the back of the manual. Make sure that the
cursor is on the "C". Then scroll through the letters until you get
to the effect letter, which is the last one, I think. Is it "E"?
Move the cursor now to the number beside the "E" and scroll through
the numbers from 1 to whatever until you get an effect that you like.
Check the manual for what it's called; unfortunately, the name
doesn't always give away what the voice is. Occe you've settled on a
voice letter/number, you can scroll through subsequent pages in the
voice menu to set other parameters. Finally, you'll have to consult
the trigger menu to set the gain, min velocity, and rejection
parameters appropriately. You won't finalize these values
immediately; it'll take some tweaking over time. When you're done,
for the time being, press the "save" button on the module and follow
the directions. You'll have created your first user kit (49). You can
give it a name if you want.

I hope this is helpful. I haven't done this myself for some time, and
I don't have a manual nearby. Plus I'm replying on my way out the
door. If I've botched something, maybe some kind soul will rectify
it. Look at least at the manual to see how the buttons on the front
of the module affect the screen in the menus. Then you should be able
to carry out the instructions that I gave. I don't have time to run
through the manual controls now.
