Mesh-head pads that WILL give the dual-trigger capability?

Mesh-head pads that WILL give the dual-trigger capability?

2005-05-16 by Jerry

Are there any Mesh-head pads that WILL give the dual-trigger capability
on the DTXPRESS III tom inputs ?

I've heard that DTXpress III requires the equivalent of an FSR trigger
strip for the rim and no mesh pad in existence has that (presently).

Thanks.

If you can get your hands on an origional DTXtreme tom it would work
on inputs 1-8. (I'm pretty sure, please correct me if I'm wrong)
I wish they still made them, they rock.

G,

No. The original DTXtreme toms were basically mesh pads with mylar
heads. They would play on inputs 1-8 on a DTXpress module but only as
mono pads, not with rim switch capability. Many people actually
replaced the mylar with mesh to make them quieter. Yamaha at one time
intended to get into the woven-head market, even to the point of
patenting their own perforated design, but Roland turned out to have
too much of a stranglehold on it.

Ed Morin at Drumbalaya seems to have had the last big batch of these
pads a while back. I think that he got them directly from Yamaha
(right, Ed?). A year or two ago, someone selling a DTXI1 kit or
components would turn up on ebay and elsewhere, but the stream seems
to have largely run dry.

That's odd that the rim switch works with DTXtreme and not with the
DTXpress? Why does a TP80s work with both kits and not the RHP80?
With Pearl mesh heads they feel realy nice!

Yes, that's correct. We purchased *all* of Yamaha's (US) known
remaining inventory of the original DTXTREME RHP pads. The snares
went pretty quickly. We have two KP120's left and a number of
RHP80's, but that's it as far that goes. We purchased all their old
DTXPRESS I/II stuff as well at the same time (it was several pallets
worth stacked high) and still have a few modules/racks. It's been
an interesting experience, that's for sure!
