I often purposely don't edit my emails...not "borne
out of laziness" meneertje and not to annoy you, but
because not everone uses the threading feature in the
email. IF you put the reply at the top of the email,
allowing everyone to quickly spot the new info/query,
and leave the relevant old info down below for easy
reference, it works just fine. For working with
disparate email systems and users it's a nice logical
approach.

Alas, I digress and for that I truly apologize...
let's get back to the music topic...the AN1X...which
is a FINE sounding synth...

What email system is at risk with such small bandwidth here?
I use threading here and there... I still prefer the linear, read them as they come in and expect a hi-jacked thread... (real good at that myself)...
Yahoo seems more than able to achieve fine. I store digests of the groups I own and moderate for those who need to search. I even have a running digest of a group the owners like to remove message they feel are not suitable to their ends. ;-) Sometimes the data in those post is the good stuff...
each to their own...

Which I didn't complain about. So why bring it up?

Well, no. What you do is quote *relevant* parts of an e-mail, and write
your comments below that, exactly as I'm doing now. Because people read
top-down, it's a lot more logical.

It's a thing about context. When you put your reply above the quoted
text, and all the headers that various mailers and Yahoo groups throw in
there, the reader has to figure out what particular part of the original
mail you're referring to. When you edit your posts and leave just the
relevant parts in, you're still perfectly understandable - after all,
it's all in context - and the reader doesn't have to sift through tons
of irrelevant stuff, like the headers I mentioned.

May I also suggest you leave out disparaging phrases since you've
figured out I'm Dutch? The guidelines I describe had already been long
established 15 years ago, when I first got access to e-mail. And they
have been explained to me as well at the time. Rather than dismissing it
out of hand, study 'netiquette'. It's there for a reason.

Not entirely correct - I'm more concerned that our list of subscribers, 1000+ as of today,
are resent identical content over and over - each time a new set of automated headers and
footers inserted making it that much more unsightly to read. Particularly when the thread
accumulates a number of responsese which amount to 'me too' - in my experience this
approach does not encourage the level of list participation that we would like to see.

Peter is on the mark and it's the approach that has been encouraged on this list for the
past five years. I can't force people to adopt proper netiquette, but it is my responsibility
toward the list to encourage it. This is not the first time I've asked somebody to edit their
replies and, no doubt, it will not be the last, There are tools available to you here at Yahoo!
Groups from which you may alter your list subscirption from individual emails to digest or
web only if you would prefer not to deal with the list content on an idividual basis.

Thanks for your understanding.

Jon

Right.
Now folks, follow the leader.
See what I've done here? This is a style Jon posts in and approves of.
Just pull the relevant info to the top so the thread is a bit easier to follow
and provide a response.

Have I been called out by Jon for bad posts? Yes, I have.
Everybody makes mistakes. But please try to follow how Jon wants the list to
operate.

Finally:
As far as getting "70s disco strings" sounds from the AN1x goes - would you use
scissors to cut your lawn? Maybe, but it would take forever and wouldn't look
good. Disco, hmmm, ya mean like "Fly Robin Fly", "Disco Inferno", "Stayin'
Alive" or "Do the Hustle" where *Real Orchestras* with *Real Instruments* were
used by the studios to perform sweeps, glissandos and 16th note licks? Then
you've certainly got the wrong tool for the job... a virtual analog synth is
supposed to sound like a limited function subtractive synth. Although you don't
want too --- the best way to copy an acoustic instrument's sound is to use
samples (or a modeling synth if you can afford it), that's just the facts of
life. What's wrong with sample based synths anyway? Can't you afford one?
There are a lot of soft synths out there to try that would give you what you're
looking for.
