Newbie/pre-user question : shuffle

Newbie/pre-user question : shuffle

2003-07-29 by adz32

Hi
I'm seriously considering getting an XX-7 for Live sequencing...
Just wanna know does it have easily controlled shuffle on patterns?

Thanks
A.

You can control shuffle on a per track basis but it's not a "live"
funtion. You have to apply it first before you hear it.

Cool - thats enough for me. Getting closer and closer...

Cheers.

It has a nice shuffle feature, but you have to apply it your tracks first,
and it's one of the few operations that will actually stop the sequencer.

OK thanks for the info.... guess its a very small downside, but would
be good in a future OS version....?
Mainly for improvising + quantising new patterns live, if you're
doing a shuffly tune (which is a lot of the time for me).

I agree it would be nice if it didn't stop the sequencer, along with
things like Transpose, and the Cut and Paste operations.

Since only "cut" stops the sequencer, try using "copy", "quick-erase",
then "paste". You're kinda SOL for the transpose and quantize thing
though...

Just out of curiousity, why does Cut stop the sequencer, when Erase and
Copy don't?

Imagine a person writing on a sheet of paper. You can copy what he's
writing (reading over their shoulder) without affecting them. However,
if you take the piece of paper away from them (i.e. cut) and don't tell
them, they'll start writing all over the table, which would be bad.

Now, erase works because I went through a lot of locking and tests to
carefully inform the "person" that I'm taking his piece of paper.
Theoretically, all the functions could be done like this, but I didn't
get around to it.

Thanks for the heads up then, I was just curious why you use the Quick
Erase feature and not stop the sequencer, but not do the same thing via
the menus.

Aaron (or anyone else) what do u mean by SOL? Is there any chance of
a future update with realtime quantize? And maybe groove quantize?
Would be wicked if I could jam live, record a funky sequence in and
once I'm happy with it quantize with a shuffle and let it loop...

Cheers
