Kaoss Pad

Kaoss Pad

2003-07-22 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

How's the sound quality on that one? I was thinking about getting one to
go on my XL-7 master outs for live use, but if it's noisey when nto being
used I might hold off.

BTW, the KAOSS pad II rocks IMO. I've got one in the effects loop of the
XL-7 at all
times.

I wouldn't compare it to my Lexicon MPX1, but it seems pretty good. I don't notice
any noise issue. It's well worth the $250 I paid.

Cool, it's definitely one of the best looking pieces of gear I've ever
seen too, that glass panel on the top is pure class.

It's decent, but limited. I had one and did notice that the levels
it put out were a bit unpredictable, which I didn't care for. The
effects are decent, and the 5-second sampler is nice to play with,
but I can't really say that it's worth its price. I snagged an
Alesis AirFX/Airsynth combo on eBay for a measly $160, and I've
honestly been pleasantly surprised with the quality of both. I'd
reccommend the AirFX over the Kaoss - cheaper, more consistent
output levels, and a cool selection of FX.

I have those as well, and they're totally different animals. No reverb, sampling or
echo effects on the AirFX and I'd say alot of the AirSynth sounds are horrible, though
maybe half are interesting and usable. People love to watch you use them though
and they're great crowd pleasers.

Amen. If the Airsynth hadn't been tossed in for $10 extra when I
bought the FX, I wouldn't have bothered. I do like to use it to make
some atmospheric sound effects though.

I can't speak for the Kaoss II, but I had an original Kaoss and it was
very noisy. I now have a Kaoss Mixer (which is a Kaoss pad wedded to a
2-stereo-channel DJ mixer) and it's fine. The Kaoss Mixer is nice; it
doesn't do MIDI like the other Kaoss boxes, but the ergonomics and
monitoring options are good.
