Same Prese, different Patterns?

Same Prese, different Patterns?

2001-12-05 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

I guess I don't understand why you just can't save the Presets to
different locations for each Pattern then? You want to use the same
preset, but want to assign different quick edits (effectively making it a
new preset BTW) for each Pattern? So save your your "common" Preset
(named with different number after it for instance) for each Pattern in a
new Preset Location.

Example, say you use a Preset called "Lead Line" in three different
Patterns (we'll call the Pattern 1, Pattern 2 and Pattern 3 for this
example). In each Pattern, edit the preset's name to match the Pattern
number. So Pattern 1 would have a Preset called "Lead Line1", Pattern 2
would use a Preset called "Lead Line2", etc.... After you rename each
Prest, be sure to save it in a new loaction. By saving the same preset to
new User locations with different names, you effectively get three of the
same Preset, with the name being the only thing different. Just be sure
to update the right track with the new location of the Preset you just
renamed and saved as a new Preset, the XL-7 won't do this for you
automatically. Then resave the Pattern once you've done that. Now you
can go into each Pattern, and make your quick edits to the Preset how you
want them, and then resave the Preset with those changes. Just be sure to
assign the new Preset location to the track you want, that won't change
automatically for you.

Make sense? I can try again if it's too confusing.

when I use the same preset in different pattern or songs I don`t know what
to to. in different pattern or songs the
preset have different quick edits, but I can save this preset to only one
location so that I have to remember me the quick edits for each
pattern/song because I can`t save it for each pattern seperatly. thats my
problem!

thanks a lot,
I understand you but my problem is that I don`t know where to save
the new preset without erasing other presets.
...wait
oh, I`m really silly.
I have to search and edit my presets under XL-7 in the preset menu
and then I can save them in the user menu in any location I want to.
it doesn`t matter if I erase a preset in the user location because I
have the original in the XL-7 location. Is this right?
thanks

another question:
why does it takes four bars to start my programmed modulation?

That is correct. You can saved all your "tweeked" presets in the
User banks. The XL-7 preset banks are just the same as the User
preset banks. When you save a preset it will force you to save it
in the User banks.

BTW, if anyone is from the bay area, Music Unlimited in San Leandro
is having an EMU-XL7 clinic tonight at 6:oopm. It should be pretty
cool.

Re: [xl7] Re: Same Prese, different Patterns/ CLINIC

Also, if you are just using the Quick edit Knobs (nothing in Preset
edit), you can insert a single controller event for each knob at the
beginning of your pattern. In this situation you would not need to save
the preset into a user location. This works great when you are using the
same preset on different MIDI channels. The quick edits will work
properly for each channel. Check your manual for a complete list of the
knob's controller numbers. This is best when used just for a few knobs,
i.e., you lowered filter cutoff and raised Q. If you did a lot of
tweaking and you would like to use the tweaked new sound in future
patterns then saving the preset to a user location is best.

My rule for working is; modified sound = insert controller data,
tweaked sound is different and has a whole new characteristic = add it
to my user banks (512 locations).

Re: Same Prese, different Patterns/ modulation-question

thanks,
insering a single controller event is one way I didn`t think of.
that`s also a good idea.
but why does it take three-four bars that my modulation I`ve
programmed with quick edit starts?

Now you got it! :)
