(Newbie) how to edit custom drum presets?

(Newbie) how to edit custom drum presets?

2003-06-14 by sonofblagger

Hi there,
I just got my XL-7 and I read thru the whole manual, but I cannot
find a way to edit/create a drum preset.
I want to create my own drum preset where I can assign a waveform of
my choice to every single key. I can do this with non-drum/pitched
instruments where you can assign waveforms to each of the 4 layers,
but how do I do this with drum-maps? This is standard on each and
every rompler I have in my rig and I cannot believe that the XL-7 is
not capable of this. What am I missing?
As I want to play and record drums live on the rubber-pads I need to
assign my favorite sounds to the pads of my choice.

True, the XL-7 does not have a drum mode...but clever programming will take
you far.

Use a combination of layers, key transpose, and preset linking...in this
way, you can assign any wave to any pad, and have a full synth engine for
each of the pads.

Note, this method will only allow you to create a "drum map" of up to twelve
different sounds, and less if you do any layering for a given hit, but it
works.

cheers,

I may be wrong but there is no way to just assign different samples to different
pads like that (No drum mode). Several people on the list have work arounds
including creating multi layer patches with different kits, using patch cords,
and some other things I am not aware of. Basically a drumkit in the XL7 seems
to be one multisample with different insert points.

If you have a sequencer like Sonar, you could have the pads transmit to Sonar,
use the drummap to remap the keys to the sounds you want, and have the midi echo
return it to your XL7 basically remapping one of the existing drumkits.

I may be wrong on some of this so maybe someone else knows for sure...?
