Midi Panic

2003-06-11 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Unusual? Well, I wouldn't send it in for servicing if that's what you
mean. Happens to a lot of MIDI gear, which is why so many have shortcuts
for MIDI panic messages. I haven't had a stuck note in long time though,
probably before OS 2.0 came out....

OK, thats a quick and easy way that I didn't know about. Can I assume
this is nothing all that unusual for these beasts?
Thx!

Dana

The main way I've ever gotten stuck notes on my XL-7 has been when
I've mapped a mod wheel to the arpeggio gate param (I think that's
what it's called -- I mean the param that controls the length of each
note the arpeggiator generates) and shortened the note length
abruptly, so the box was fooled into thinking it had already
note-offed some notes it was still playing.

Or at least that's what it felt like was going on.

Exactly the same has happened to me. (At least in 1.32; I've not tried
it in 2.0.)

I only wish I was doing something comlicated like that. All that I
was doing was staying on one pattern (which sends program changes to
external midi gear) and muting/unmuting parts, and maybe using quick
edit on a preset. I wouldn't think that would do a thing to clog up
the midi stream, but ??????

Hehe, I've gotten stuck notes on gear when I was only playing a preset,
not even running the sequencer. It happens, as long as it doesn't happen
too frequently, I woudn't worry too much about it.

Yeah, that has happened to me too with other gear, now that I think
about it. So I will wait and see, maybe its not much of a problem at
all.
