Features in the new OS?

Features in the new OS?

2001-11-30 by nifflas@musician.org

I have some questions about the new OS... won't be able to try it
before the emu guys have repaired the XL-7.

When I selected a new pattern (OS 1.01), Program Changes, Volume
(CC7) and Pan (CC10) was automaticly sent to my external synth, which
totally messed up the multisetups of the synthesizers...

The multisetups of the external gear already has information about
pan, volume and instrument, so I can see no reason why the XL-7 must
send this info.

Can such messages be blocked in the new OS, or will I have to buy a
MIDI filter just to do this simple thing?

If you set the track to external, it will not save new info for that track at
tick 0. This includes program change, vol, pan, mix, arp, etc... However,
it will not erase existing messages (which would be there if you saved it
once when it was not external only).

Two things you can do:

1. If you really don't want the XL-7 to transmit setup stuff, set the track
to external. If you've already saved it as both, you can set the track to
external, then erase the offending messages from the track (using the ERASE
EVENTS screen). Then, save it, and it won't send info on those tracks
anymore.

2. (Recommended) Set the track to external. Go into the list editor and
insert the commands to setup your external synth at tick 1. This way, your
external synth will always stay in sync with the current pattern.

Thank you very much for the help, I'll try what you said.
