More OS Update Procedure Observations

2001-11-29 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Other things I noticed that I forgot to mention earlier:

The OS update procedure takes a lot longer to perform with this Update
compared to 1.07, and not just because there's two files to download. Just
mentioning it so others are aware of that fact and can plan the time
accordingly.

When you're downloading the new OS into the XL/MP, the XL will stop at one
point and give you the message: "Will Erase User Data", with YES being the
only option you can select (by hitting ENTER). What gets erased, Global
settings? You have no choice but to accept the erase, so I was curious
what it was I was losing?

It takes the XL/MP a lot longer to power up each time now, but that's not
a big deal or anything either.

About 30% of the time when I turn on my XL, the Save/Copy light start
blinking immediately, even though I haven't touched anything (nothing
plugged into my MIDI ports either). Turns out that the Preset on Track 1
of the start up Pattern has an asterisk next to it, as if I modified it.
Like I said, I don't touch anything so I'm not sure what's causing this
intermittent problem.

One more question, just to make sure I understand some of the new features
correctly. Say I have an 8 measure pattern and I want to copy the 5th
measure of Track 2 throughout all 8 measures. I copy that measure to the
Clipboard, then paste it to the first measure of that track. Now I cut
measures 2-8 to the Clipboard to effectively erase them. So then I should
set the Pattern Length to 1, and perform and Extend Sequence Data to 8?
This will copy the first measure 8 times, and then I can go back and set
my pattern length back to 8 without losing any of the data I had on other
tracks in measures 2-8 right? Just trying to think of the quickest/best
way to do this, since you can't specify the number of times to perform a
paste operation. Is there another way I'm not thinking of?

Thanx all,

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I also noticed that the cut/paste light bug is still present.

Exactly right. You don't even have to set the length back to 8, it will
do it for you. Make sure you only select the track you want to
extend...

Thanx Aaron for confirming my thought process. I hate to say it, but a
times field in the paste screen would be very helpful and eliminate a ton
of steps too. Maybe something to keep in mind if you guys ever need to
release another OS update?
