Playing live tips

after reading realms tips for playing live, i thought i would add
some input on what i do. i do alot of what realm says already, and
do a few things differently. first i pick out the songs i want to
play, and pick what order i want them to play in. then i put all the
patterns in order(i name my patterns, with the pattern numbers of my
other equipment, so i never get lost, as to what instrument should be
playing what pattern.). i do create extra patterns that blend parts
of songs together, however, if you are using different types of
internal effects, your sounds may change...this can be both good and
bad. i also (as realm does) keep, my bass drums(bass, snares etc) on
the same part in different patterns. if i use midi to play notes on
an external keyboard, i usualy mute this part, and play the keyboard
live. i also like to do cymbal crashes live, along with some
breakbeats. another thing that keeps it really live, more for me
than for the crowd (since they cant see my equip) is too keep some
other songs saved twards the end of a bank. this way, if the crowd
isnt feeling my trance set, i can go to some breaks tracks. also,
you can save breakbeats to RPS, and make your trance set really
rocking by ditching your 4/4, and supporting your music with some
serious ass shakin breakbeats. also if you have a microphone, and a
vocoder...USE IT!!!!
now i would like to share a story with everyone, as to why YOU MUST
ALWAYS BACK YOUR MUSIC UP!!!!
few years back, an mc 505 was my main sequencer. i saved stuff to
memory card, but was lazy about it. the 505 sat on a keyboard
stand. it sat there for years. till one day, when my friend loui
came to visit with his brand new boxer puppy(about 1 year old). his
dog knocked the 505 off of its stand, i jumped up and ran, it was
like slo motion, i kinda caught the box, i kinda didnt. it turned
on. and then it crazy, and turned off. i got it fixed, and wehn i
loaded the memory card back on, i realized, i didnt save like the
last 5 songs, iwas working on. they were tight too. 3 lessons
learned- 1 BACK UP YOUR MATERIAL, anything can happen
2 make sure your equipment is secure and out of the way.
cover it, if you are not using it.
3 keep a gun or slingshot handy for your friends annoying
pets that they just wont leave at home alone.
peace out
