Son of XL-7 rig in interesting setting

A bit of a follow-on from the Colourscape photos last autumn; here's a couple of shots from the performance project I've been working on for the last few weeks. http://www.cassiel.com/misc-images/idf-rig1.jpeg It's a contemporary dance project, involving live audio pickup from a set of contact mics., and a live improvised electronic sound score performed in quadraphonic. (Why in quad? Answer: because I'd never done it before, and since the choreographer has previously collaborated with Hans-Peter Kuhn who did a prerecorded octophonic score, I thought I should at least attempt quad.) The XL-7 is clearly visible mounted in the EMS Eurorack, but there's a pair of Nord MicroModulars mounted behind it, and in fact most of the work (including effects processing) was done using a pair of Korg OasysPCI cards. Each card is mounted in a Magma expansion chassis (barely visible right at the back), and each has its controlling laptop. And, yes, behind the rig is a large collection of galvanised buckets. Some of these carry the contact mics. (and hence the need for the Feedback Destroyer in the rig, since I had to deal with a big quadraphonic PA complete with subwoofer). The buckets are for the ice sculpture, visible (in incomplete state) in http://www.cassiel.com/misc-images/idf-rig2.jpeg (The picture's a little blurred because it was taken in the middle of a lighting test.) If there's interest, and if I ever get my ADSL line fixed, I'll upload some of the sound score. -- Nick. -- nick rothwell -- composition, systems, performance -- http://www.cassiel.com
