user patterns.

2003-05-07 by grinderking69

hey all, i went to the emu sight, and the presets seem a little week. can
anyone give me a link to some of there mp3's that were done entirely on the
xl7 or mostly done on the xl7. now to me presets on most keyboards, and
boxes are week. so it really comes down to waveforms...am i going to be able
to pull really lush sounds off this thing? the preset patterns and songs sound
like trance from 97 before they started adding lots of texture to songs...

Yeah, I hear you, the Factory Patterns and Presets are a bit weak IMO, but
that's the case with most Presets no matter the gear (except Access, who
now uses their excellent user created patches as Presets). I think it's
not a good idea to judge a synth capabilities based on it's factory
sounds, as they many times don't even come close to what you can actually
do with the synth. You can definitely get some massively lush sounds out
of the Xl-7, and if you check some of the recent posts from this morning,
you can find a link to the contest site where we had a XX-7 song contest
for people on this list. Lots of great tunes up there, all made by us!

Try:
http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/EmuCS/index-1.html

There was an informal contest disallowing ANY gear besides an XL-7
except a controller keyboard. No external sequencer, no external
editing, no external FX, etc. Composite Blue won, but all the tracks
show off a different part of the XL-7/MP-7. I don't know if the
problem still exists, but I had to download instead of stream them.

MP-7's were allowed too, just to clear up any possible confusion. MP3
streams are working again, but the Real Audio ones aren't.

Speaking of which, rEalm, can u post the methodology for making drum patterns
out of waveforms. i remember awhile back u posted the means to create drums
(basslines?) out of waveforms and it sounded really dope. thanks..

Many songs at http://www.nifflas.com is made with the XL-7. There's
even an useful guide that tells you which sounds is the XL-7, and
even which sound comes from which sound rom.
