You don't have to filter the whole kit, you still get 4 layers (therefor 4 
filters) in your drum presets.  I know it'ss till not what you want, but 
it's SOME WHAT better.  The problem is that you really can't change which 
drum sounds are in each layer still...  Bummer I know, I'm a percussion 
freak myself.

Using different MIDI channels for your kit will also give you
independent control for each drum sound. Something I like to do is use
one track for the full drum kit and then break out the individual parts
into separate tracks. This gives me ultimate control, I can filter and
tweak the whole beat if I like or, mute that track and select the
individual tracks for independent control.
