Stick to computer or buy Digital recorder?...

Stick to computer or buy Digital recorder?...

2003-04-25 by Robert Blue

Whats up yall, if anybody can give some advice or opinions to this
that would be great!
I cant decide if I want/should go to a digital mixer recorder
setup like the Yamaha AW2816 or stick to my computer. Ive been
recording tracks from my RS and yamaha keyboard to my audigy card
with cubase or majix audio. Just sequencing everything with the RS
and recording audio that way.But Ive came to problems like my
computer hard drive going bad (Only 6mos old!?) programs acting up,
and trying to find the right mixer, now that I want to expand my
setup. On one hand Im thinking with a Digital recorder I have a all
in one package meant for music, but on the other I see the price tag
and Know I could buy lots of things for my computer and have money
left for a new keyboard..

robert, take a look on ebay for some older models....i started with tascam 224 (and upgraded the cubase), mp-7, and a casio board.....the computer (1 years old) just didn't have enough power....i needed a larger hard drive, more ram, and i still didn't feel that it would be adequate for what i wanted to do i did some research and found out about an akai dps16....i got a great deal ($800 for the dps16, shure mic, and a 3 piece speaker monitor set)....i decided to go that route so that i could upgrade cheaply and save for a triton studio (from ebay as well)....i have a cd rom connected so that i can burn recordings directly to disk and backup entire projects on disk as well....its awesome i truly recommend the product....although i don't have much experience with other equip....try a search on ebay for dps12, dps16, and dps 24.....my suggestion is simply to do some research on some of the recent not necessarily new models and then check ebay b/c there may be some great deals out there -rumi-
