xl7 and doepfer

2003-04-16 by Aaron Eppolito

I'm pretty sure I answered this before, but since Mike's getting pretty
antsy, I'll mention it again. =)

The short answer? it won't work.

The long answer: we don't support inc/dec (one mode of the Pocket
Dial) nor do we transmit the initial controller values upon program
change (the other mode). You *could* query the XL-7 for the initial
controller values, but the Pocket Dial wouldn't be able to do that.

Aaron if you did answer me already I am sorry for getting so antsy.
So it won't work, dam.

Thanks for letting me know.

This then leeds me to this question. Do you think it is a
possability that we will ever see a "snap" type feature for the
command stations? If you say no that is not going to happen I give
you my word i will never bug you about it again.

I will say that this one feature alone would make this box complete
for me. I would run and tell it from the mountain that this was the
only box to use! LOL not that I am not already doing this.:P

peace

Ditto, that's the only thing that would really make me think the box is
perfect for live use. Everything else is just nice extras... ;)

Don't worry, I lobbied long and hard to try and get this put in 2.0 (poor
Aaron is probably sick of me bugging him about it!). Sadly, it couldn't
happen.

Do you know if it was sompthing that they just did not have time for
or if it is sompthing that they are just not going to do?

I dont know anything about about programing but the lights know to
turn on when the actual current position is reached, it would be
possable to have the controller turn on at that point as well... no?

Mike G.

P.S.
Hey Nick R. you are a programer right? Is this a hard thing to do?
just wondering.

Peace

My guess is it's a matter of money. Every new feature takes time to
implement and test, and we all know time is money...

I'm not going to say for sure that it's possible, but the few people I
talked to who know about this sort of stuff said it should definitely be
doable. Maybe we need to set up a collection? :)

LOL ya I would be willing to help organize this. Why not a command
station OS black market? Ya know what i am saying :P

But rely that pocket dial was going to run me about 350$. If it
would have worked I would have bought it.

Ya rRalm we can only hope.
And wait.

What was this thread about: slider nulling? If so, then in an ideal
world it's not that difficult, but I have no knowledge of the insides
of the XL-7 in terms of the complexity of the software or data
structures. Bear in mind that the function mapping and data routing
from the knobs is not exactly trivial as things stand.

We where talking about what rEalm was calling "snap".
The idea is that the knobs dont respond until the actual value is
met. I think that says enoug. I am just curious.
