spontaneous pattern switching possible?

spontaneous pattern switching possible?

2001-08-05 by Eric

I browsed the online manual looking for the ability to switch
patterns spontaneously, but found no implication of it. I'm
considering switching from the yamaha rm1x which does have this
feature, but without this feature I won't want to.

It works by having the 16 buttons switched to "section" mode in which
each button is assigned to starting a pattern (made up of 16 tracks),
with the option of switching being quantized to beat one. This allows
one not to be locked into a predetermined song arrangement, jam over
a groove as long as you want, switch to a break, start another
section, etc.

Switching is also controllable with a yamaha foot controller (mfc10),
but more ideally each of the 16 pattern/section switching should be
controllable by say a midi cc# so any midifoot pedal could be used.

If this is not capable on the xl-7, what is the likelihood it could
be incorporated in an os update?

Could you explain what you need a little? (I've put in about 12 hours
on the box in the last 3 days :>)

Do you mean switching patterns in the middle of a sequenced groove?
You can't do this on the box - the closest you would get would be
switching out tracks while bringing others in. I don't find too much
of an issue with this yet, since each track can hold so much stuff,
and I'm barely getting around that. However, I can see the advantages
it would have, especially if you were used to working that way/ your
style of music required it.
