OS 2.5 ideas and bug fixes? :)

OS 2.5 ideas and bug fixes? :)

2003-04-14 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

New OS ideas:

- Pressing Play+Stop will automatically cause the Pattern to begin playing
back at the start of any defined Loops. If no loop points are defined,
then the Pattern begins playing back at the beginning as normal, or
switches to the next queued pattern.

- Track Mute buttons should function as shortcut keys for Pattern Edit
menus, same as they do within Preset Edit. True, there's no labels
screened on the box for this, but the most common used ones will be easy
enough to remember after you've done it a few times..

- Cut, Copy, and Paste commands and Note and Event List Edit screens
should default to the current active (Basic) Track. Ditto for the Send
screen in the Global menu.

- TAP+ (Pattern Edit button) becomes shortcut for Revert to Saved.

- TAP + (Preset Edit Button) loads the initialized Preset to the current
Track (basically this is a way to initialize the current preset).

- TAP + Arp button acts as short cut for Arp hold On/Off.

- Snap and/or Relative mode for the 16 knobs.

- A Copy and Paste field command. IE, pressing some button combination
will cause the value currently selected by the blinking cursor location to
be copied. Another button combination causes this value to be pasted into
the next selected location of the same value type. This would make it
easy to set things (Note #, CC#, etc) to the same values while in the List
Editors, or in any screen for that matter.

- An option (selected or disabled via the menu) for Multisetups to restore
ALL parameters, including current Pattern location, basic channel, etc.

- The ability to grid record CC numbers.

Bug fixes.

- Currently if your cursor is on the count in field of the Record Armed
page, and you scroll hard to change this to the 'note symbol' used in
first note record, the cursor will jump to the quantize field by itself.

- Issue with the Repeat Button unmuting tracks.

- Changing meters on the Conductor Track in Song Mode causes a complete
lock up.

Firs off I just got access to this group again after a week of my
local yahoo server being down.

I want to give my thanks for the new os. I have had some time to
work with it now and it helps the work flow. I like the temp loop
feature alot as I often work in 32 bar patterns. Also the 64 and
128 in quantize is a massive bonus for us old skoolers.

And well XMIX!! now that is a feature and a half! I LOVE XMIX :)
The was this has been set up is perfict as far as I am concerned.

Again thanks.

I personaly dont think I would use this one much but that is just me.

This idea I like alot. This is sompthing I would use all the time.

I could see this one causing me problems. Just for example when I
am setting up controller information for E5000 the track that the
preset is on is not always the track that I am setting up controller
iformation on. I come across this when I am using presets to call
up fx. This is the mode I am usaly operating in as all the music i
write is in preperation for live use. Think that made sence.

Another good one.

Ya i dig it.

 - TAP + Arp button acts as short cut for Arp hold On/Off.

sure why not.

This is sompthing I have gone on about before but I have an update
that makes me want it even more. Ok where to begin here. I did
some looking around for a controller that would solve this problem
and there is one out there. It is the Doepfer Pocket Dial. It is a
bank of 16 encoders. The dials just keep turning and turning. The
catch is that the hardware/software you use it with has to be able
to comunicate with it so it know what the current position of dial
is so it can update with no sudden jumps. Or the hardware/software
has to be able to recive only + or - information to add or subtract
from the current position of the peramiter you are controlling. I
have posted here a couple of times and have gone directly to the EMU
tech support and got no answer. I would try this out for myself to
see if it works but I cant do this due to the fact that I have to
order one from another city. I am not willing to take a gamble on
this one as they cost about 350.00 can.

since EMU is totaly unwilling to answer my questions about this issue

"Sorry but we do not provide sysex support.
You can download a sysex pdf for the command stations from the XL-
7/MP-7
product pages at emu.com."

(this the last email I got from EMU. Ok thats great but I am not a
programer)

I am BEGGING for this feature. I am totaly suprised at the lack of
help I got with this due to the fact that EMU is generaly very good
with its support.

sounds confusing but good.

There is sompthing i would like to add here. When switching tracks
set to external Samples get cut off. This is just like the arp
thing but with my E5000. Very anoying. A fix for this would be
great.

Peace

[xl7] XMIX and the AntiChrist ...

Okay, I think we can agree that MIX = 1009.

So would the leading X of XMIX make XMIX = 999?

And we all know that 999 is, upside down.
