RE: [xl7] OS Upgrade Help Needed

Ok, make sure you download all the files from the ftp site. Make sure your
deveice ID is the same (Midi menu on the XL7) make sure you have the right port
listed for send and recieve. Open the OS3.2 file and upload the 010.dsi file
first this will make sure you can download the rest of the os. Then (if this
works) download the 2.0 dsi. If this doesn't help then you might have some
problem with your midi interface. Try this first then let us know if it
worked...

Subject: [xl7] OS Upgrade Help Needed

Okay, I just got my XL-7 a week ago, I love it and you can't imagine
how excited I was to find out that, just a week after it arrives I
can upgrade it with features that I wouldn't have dreamed of ever
getting.
So I'm a total newbie to working with the midi interface with my
computer.
I've got it all hooked up, looks great, sending data back and forth,
BUT, when I go to update the OS I get the message, 'Multiple messages
need to be resolved' and the download fails. So close yet so far.

Additionally, the XL-7 is not recognized as an independent MIDI
device. The E-loader program is only recognizing my MIDI hardware
address.
Any help? Should I try the USB route? I thought I read you couldn't
do an OS update with USB.

I'm so excited for the upgrade, please tell me there is a simple
solution to resolving the multiple message issue.

Ever grateful,

morplett

Thanks for the quick response Andre,

You must have sensed the desperation in my voice. Okay, so all the
things you mentioned I tried. Still got the same message. So just as
a last resort I checked all the MIDI settings on the XL-7 and the
only thing I could think of was the MIDI clock signal could be viewed
as a multiple signal. But that wouldn't be running during the OS
upload protocol right?
Well I turned off the MIDI clock, BOOM, the OS 010.dsi file loaded no
problem, followed immediately thereafter by the new OS 2.0.
Yahoo!
So I was pretty happy to solve this little issue. But I still don't
understand why the clock signal was screwing up the E-loader.

Anyone else have this problem? BTW, my XL-7 had the original OS on
it.

So I'll be up late into the night with my OS2.0 addendum trying out
all the wild improvements.

Cheers,

morplett

I'd set up it like this:

- make Sonar to transmit MIDI clock to the MP-7.
- Set the MP-7 to ignore external song start, and set it's tempo to 0
(ext). Turn rechannelize input off.
- now you can use the MIDI Enable screen in the MP-7 (midi menu) to turn
off all of the channels except one. Using this screen, you can
effectively solo your tracks so that you can record them to Sonar one at a
time. After you finished one track, just enable the next one and disable
the one you just did. works great, but it can take awhile.

BTW, I don't have Sonar, so don't ask me how to use it, sorry!

I'm wondering, is there an easy way to simply load, and unload the sequences. Like with smf files or something?

Sure it is. use Eloader to copy the SMF to your computer. Open it up in Sonar
and there you go. Select the correct midi port in track view, press play.
that way you're now using the MP7 as a sound module

It's a free download on the emu site.
You need it for OS updates, apparently for MIDI data transfer. And some other stuff. -Wesley D.

I don't know what the problem is........but I can't get Eloader to upload my
songs from the MP-7 to the PC. I can load from PC to the MP-7 but not vice
versa. Anyone have any suggestions? I've used XP and 98 and the same problem
with both systems with a MidiSport 2x2 USB interface with the MP-7 on the (A)
ports and the Proteus 1K on the (B) ports.

Thanks!
Majik

Are you supplying power to the USB port? How about a USB hub. I've found
even if it seems to work unpowered, powered is better on USB hubs. The
Griifen solved a couple of problems for me.
