I have an Audity 2000, I will get the sysex dump from it, and a soundiver dump.
Do with it what you will...., I will post in a bit.

You missed the part of my post stating that I'd already asked the
members of those two groups, and while some showed slight enthusiasm,
none were willing to actually do the sysex dumps (I had offered to do
the rest).

Anyway, screw perl: if you're gonna do it, do it with Java so that
everybody can use it.

Here's another thought: if anybody could create a little program to
batch convert these presets, it'd be the folks at E-mu. I wouldn't be
surprised if they already have an in-house program for that sort of
thing, anyway. (It'd be worth it, too, since then we could do these
types of conversions on a regular basis. I've heard requests from P2K
users for P2500 sounds, XL-1 users for XL-7 sounds, and most
recently, XL-7 users trying to get their hands on the Audity 2000
presets). Give the people what they want! :)

This means there are essentially no differences between the units -
apart from the waveforms available.

This is really good news - it means that conversion should be >really<
easy - no perl required. We can fix this in a text editor!!

For the audity extreme however, there will be a little fuss involved -
we'll need to convert one number to another, though it's just
subtraction. It's still a great deal simpler than I imagined.

The document on the site, while invaluable, takes us only halfway -
it's designed for implementing an editor program rather than explaining
the format of a patch sysex dump from the emu. No problem though. Now
we know what to look for, we look at the sysex and work out where the
important numbers in each layer are kept. This should be pretty trivial
to find in an individual patch dump, though how it looks in a mass dump
may be different from that.

Pity - it looks like the planet phatt will be a lot more complicated to
convert. One step at a time, I suppose. (There's also the orbit, though
at that point, we will be drowning in patches :>) It should not be too
painful especially after the extreme is converted, and I have a planet
phatt I can get the patches from.

Guys, this pdf is of interest to anyone using a software sequencer to
control their units. In logic audio, at least, you could build
environments that do as ultra cool stuff as turning of soloing in
layers (way cool), switching samples on the fly, and altering the
effects <sigh>. I miss logic...

We can find the audity ROM ids from the patches themselves, when we can
find them. We already have the xl-7 rom ids.

I have enough experience with perl to know what it can do, but not
enough to actually write the script. I >do< have a number of friends I
can hit up, especially for something as ridiculously simple as finding
a number, and subtracting 287 from it, in hex.

All we will need now are the Audity Presets. I've just joined the A2k
and audity 2000 mailing lists. Hopefully, someone will be kind enough
to help me out. If anyone here can rustle them up, send them to me, at
biz at groovetronica.com, I'll do my part for the 'cause' :>

p.s. Sean, Aaron - thanks guys for the awesome upgrade! I can't wait to
get home tonight...

Java - was Re: Audity and audity extreme

2003-04-09 by A.Ruesberg

i already thought about a java editor or patch librarian.

theoretically java is able to acces available midi ports. i wrote a
simple programm to list all my midi ports. on my pc this worked fine,
but on my mac (ibook with midiman quatro) it only showed the internal
midi synthesizers. maybe it is a problem with the midiman interface, or
it is a general mac os x problem. i would be pleased if anyone can
check this on another mac. just mail me and i´ll send you the very very
small programm,

another problem is the xx7 sysex format. sorry emu, you did a great job
creating those machines, but why is a single sound dump splitted into
several pieces of sysex data ? at least, this is what i figured out of
the sysex manual.
these several peaces makes it a bit complicated to write an editor

if there are any other people with java knowledge out there, maybe we
can join effort an write our own patch librarian and sound converter.

feel free to contacte me offlist if you are interested.

Actually, I was just going to convert them and post the presets. What would
anyone need the converter program for, once the presets were posted?

As far as the Audity/Audity extreme set at least, I have someone who can do
the conversion for us, if we can get ahold of the presets sysex.

Why should they? It's not like this request has come up before...

P2k -> P2500 requires no conversion
XL-7-XL-1 the last thing I heard, this wasn't going to happen - because it
would involve some conversion. (Perhaps it was only the ROM id? Hmm... I'd
just love to get the P2500 presets on my (old format, and therefore
unconvertable) composer ROM)

I found this on the XL-1 board. I've used these to put the banks of
the XL7 into my wife's MP6 (with xlead rom) and they seem to work fine
