What is the best ROM for drums??

What is the best ROM for drums??

2003-03-28 by mikedj5000

New XL-7 user here, Not really satisfied with the Kicks in the
Proteus 2000 and the Xtreme Lead standard roms. Looking to buy an
expansion ROM for better drums, looking for tight booming kicks, any
suggestions???

The "new" Command Station is supposed to ship with a "Drum ROM". They
(E-MU) say that the ROM will be released separately after the release
of the new unit. Stay tuned.........

Check the archives here as Aaron (synthesis77) was talking about this
recently.

I know what you mean, the presets are a bit weak in places for
the drums, but with a lot of layering, filtre settings, and
patchcords etc the drums can be quite good in the XL ROM....

User collective, anyone?

2003-03-28 by delltamale

Lately, this talk of drums and ambient patches and other stuff has
made me wonder if people would be interested in pooling their
programming and organizing skills?

Patch group

How much interest would there be in starting a user bank collective?
A number of people have said that they aren't being completely
fulfilled by the current patch set. For myself, I definitely see the
need for more:

- ambient sounds - it's more than just slow attack pads...
- more interesting/exotic/usable drum sets.
- the machine is desperately in need of simpler sounds - everything
in the ROMs is overly multi-layered.
- patch conversion from the planet phatt and audity boxes.

Patch Names

Furthermore, there is the matter of patch names for the various ROMs
and DAWs. How would you like to fill out and organize 1 bank of ROM
names for Cubase/Logic/Sonar, and get all the other banks in your
machine in return?

I am sure that there is other stuff that you all want that we could
make together. If you are interested in contributing, please respond
off list to biz @ groovetronica.com

with:

- your programing and sound design experience
- particular interest in sounds
- ROMs you own
- any programming you already have, that you wish to share
- amount of time you can devote to such a project
- and any other items to add to a 'user' wishlist.

As I said before, there probably some room for all experience levels
in a project like this.

I think this is a good idea.

You may want to check out the IBGEEK yahoo group. It is all about
creating sounds with (mostly) EMU gear. I started it about a year
ago and it now has some good files to be had. But there is not alot
of patches yet.

So it would be cool do set sompthing up there, that is if people are
into it.

Just an idea.

Ditto, it's all in the layering. By themselves, single layers are a tad
weak, but get two or three drum sounds happening at once and you can get
some really powerful drums that way. It's easier for me to just add new
layers to the drum preset and use the layer Transpose settings to find the
right drum sounds. Then you don't have to worry about having 3 midi notes
for each kick drum, etc.

>>>Yeah, I was going to suggest starting a User Preset database on the

it, I think I've got a quite a bit of Presets I eventually wouldn't mind
giving away. <<<

>>>To be honest, this is only of use to those that use the stock Presets,
if you make your own User Presets, then this doesn't help much. I'd
probably not be interested in this aspect as I never use Stock Presets.
