another rom question

another rom question

2003-03-25 by mikexl7

My local music shop is selling off EMU modules for dirt cheap. They
are selling the Proteus for 600. XL1-B3-ORBIT for 399. and the
planet earth for 250!

Man the same store is selling the roms for 400.

so my question is this can i pull the planet earth rom out of the
module and throw it into my XL? From what I have read here I get
the feeling that i could do this but only the first four controllers
on the xl will affect the sounds of that rom. is this correct? In
this case i would just have to manualy set up the controllers?

OH YA get this, i had some major problems with my first XL so I
returned it to the same store. I have good status at that store so
they upon my request just gave me a new XL. At that time i had no
way of backing up my patterns so they went off to Cali with the box
never to be seen again as far as I was concerned, a sad day. Any
way I was looking at the MC909 to see what what I thought of it.
After working with it for a wile I went over to the XL-7 they had
sitting there and hit play to see the sound difference and go figure
I was listing to MY music! What a freaking trip! I then took a
closer look and reolized that it was my old XL-7! So my question
here is what is the best way for me to re-record the patterns into
my new XL7? man what a weird day it has been.

P.S. the roland sounded thin over all compaired to the XL. Hard
to put my finger on what excatly the difference was but the EMU just
had a much warmer and fuller sound.

Ok think that is it, Man it kinda makes me worry when i see all the
EMU gear droping in price so drasticly. It makes me wonder if EMU
is in some serious troble. I hope not.

Any info would be great and I think time is of the essence here due
to the price of the gear.

Thanks

Yes you can, it contains the same World ROM that you could buy
separately. You'd get the first 12 (not 4) controllers, but they'd be
"mislabeled" because the XL-7 nomenclature is different. The knob
layout corresponds to the P2K style, indicated on the front panel of
the 1U module.

I'd recommend a laptop with a USB connection, or maybe they'll let you
install E-Loader and the USB drivers on one of the PC's at the shop.
Upload the desired patterns, swap units, then download them back into
the new unit.
