upgrading OS

upgrading OS

2001-11-16 by InfidelsRe@aol.com

I received my brand new XL-7 and it had the 1.0 OS. I downloaded the
updated OS easily enough and unzipped it ok. So I loaded the EZ loader
program (I have a microspft java environment apparently version 5.00.3309)
and it seemed to load ok.

However it turns out if I use the EZ Loader program once and then close it,
it hangs when I try to open it a second time.

Anyway, once I have it open, I get to the point where I've chosen the file to
be sent (the new OS) and the XL-7 LED reads "Searching for OS" and its midi
out light is beeping steadily but the download button never becomes available
on the Downloader program.

Also, the XL-7 is NOT one of the midi devices in the "configure midi device"
item so I cannnot choose the xl-7 to send the info to.

Why?

I have the adpater connected to my PC(running Windows ME) sound card, a Sound
Blaster Live! Value card, and the midi out of the computer goes to the midi
in of the xl-7 and the midi in of the computer goes to the midi out of the
xl-7. Does it make a difference which midi out of the xl-7 is connected?

How do I check if the midi on the computer is working since I've done no
previous midi work on this computer? What else could I do to get this
working?

There has been alot of talk about this here you might want to review
the posts. I have only had one eye open to them so am probibly not
the best to answer you but i will try.

This is not just you there are problems with ME and the loader
program.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my MIDI card.

The XL-7 should not be in the list. What you are looking for here is
the midi card you have hooked up to the P.C. in your case I bet it
will be a driver that came with the blaster live. If the blaster
live did not come with drivers then windows ME might have just
instaled some drivers that it felt would work when you installed it.

That is all good.

"Does it make a difference which midi out of the xl-7 is connected?"

I dont know but just use the first one.

when you have E-Loader open there is a way to test your midi. There
is a picture of a keyboard. Click on this, and click you left mouse
button over the keys and see if you get any responce from the midi in
put on the XL-7. If you don't them your problem is likley windows
based. Also the card might have come with a utility that will alow
you to check.

What else could I do to get this

Call E-MU tech support or the tech support for the blaster.

Peace

If you got a PC, MIDI OX is *THE* program for testing MIDI 'n stuff.
Use it to gether with MIDI Yoke. Download it at www.midiox.com

If you want to see if MIDI works, connect the MIDI out to the MIDI in
(from computer to computer), use MIDI OX to send some messages, and
see if they go thru. Also try to send many SYSEX messages really
fast, and watch if they get distorted. Some soundcards has that
problem.
