PX-7, 2.0 os and more...

2003-03-17 by Sean Wilhelmsen

Hey guys, here's the latest information regarding Command Stations.

PX-7

The PX-7 debuted at Music MESSE. It's metallic silver highlighted with blue, due out in the states in June, everywhere else in July. The pictures you see from MESSE our close to what it will look like, but the paint used for that prototype is more a flat/unfinished paint which is a less flashy version of what will ship in June.

The PX-7 has one ROM, a new 32 MB drum ROM. The signature sounds or highlighted sounds will be several new acoustic, multi layered drum kits. It will also have electronic, hip-hop and world percussion as well. The PX-7 patterns will be more like drum machine patterns. We plan to provide a full collection of styles.

The new drum ROM will also be available on its own for Command Stations, Proteus Keyboards and P2K/P1K module owners. Ship date will be shortly after the PX-7 is released.

2.0 operating System

We are in the final stages of Beta test. A release should happen with the next two weeks. I will most likely post it to my ftp site before it becomes available from our web site, but I'll keep you posted. There are at least 15 new features including "X-MIX" which allows you to mix tracks from other patterns into your current pattern in real time. We have created a lot of power user/short cut features as well as given you replace record, recording of mutes in song mode, time scaling/shift, loop section in a pattern, which also can be used real time and expand/explode tracks.

The more stuff

Nothing to report, It just looked good in the subject.

Have a great day

So the only Rom is a Drum ROM in the PX-7's? It's not not a P2500 version
of the Command Stations?

Correct. One ROM only. Just the new Drum ROM.

Way better than magamix too, Emu did a nice job taking it up a notch IMHO,
makes transitioning between patterns a lot more fun.

Thanks for the info Sean. It is about time the company that came out
with the excellent Procussion module developed a command station
dedicated to drums. I used to say my XL-7 with World, ZR and Techno
ROM's was the best drum machine possible. Now I have to figure out
which ROM gives way to the new drum ROM. Or maybe I should start
saving and just get the entire module. Stick in a Beat Garden and Mo-
Phat ROM. Wow. The TWO best drum machines available.

Sync them together and you have a 32 track command station. That's my rig. I
can never have enough mute buttons at my figure tips.

Is there anything in there (maybe the x-mix thing) that alows you to
mute/unmute by turning knobs (like beats mode)?

how about grouping of tracks?

Have you contacted E-MU service to set up a repair? The keypad assembly is
easy to replace.

Yes I have, they told me to call my local autorized repair but they will not
sell the part alone, they want me to bring it in and pay $65.00 one hour
minimum. I am an experienced technician and can do it myself if I had the
damn part.

You can combine multiple tracks onto one (via the clipboard), and vice
versa. I think at least, could be wrong :)

I found a parts distributor for EMU and many other gear in Florida called EPR
Electronics (eprelectronics.com) that has parts for my MP-7. They are the
only distributor on the east coast, (I am in Chicago). I am in the
process of ordering my rubber pad assembly. It is a $15.00 minimum for parts
orders, just thought I would share this with my fellow beat makers.

We caught a surprisingly nasty last minute bug at, well, the last
minute! I gave a second final candidate to our QA guys today, so as
soon as they get through the test plan, if everything goes well (which
I assume it will) once they're done, 2.00 should be done! We'll let
you guys know as soon as it's ready! =)

PS. it's not 14 days ago for at least another 45 minutes here! West
