rom ids and rom names ???

rom ids and rom names ???

2003-03-14 by kevinj_j

I noticed that the rom from my mk-6 (which currently lives in my XL-
7) name is 'MROM'. I looked in the manual for the MP-7 which its rom
is named 'MP-7', yet both have exactly the same presets..I suspect
the same is true for the XL-7 and XROM1 (although I havent
checked)..My question is - are their ROM IDs the same just named
different for different product lines - allowing them to be used
interchangably ??

You're very observant... =) The P2500, XL-7, and MP-7 Roms were
updated for the keyboard, and then retrofitted into the Command
Stations. They have the same IDs, but either have an additional bank
of presets, or small preset fixes. When the ROM ID stays the same, the
idea is that you could use the newer ones in place of the old ones (but
not necessarily the other way around).

You can (usually) check to see what "version" sound ROM you have by
checking the last preset of the ROM.

does this hold true for the pure phatt as well?
ie
MROM and the pure phatt have the same ids (just different presets)?

They have different IDs. The MROM (standard ROM for the MK-6 keyboard) and
MP-7 ROM have the same IDs. The MP-7 ROM and MROM have the same presets for
the first four banks. The MROM has a bonus 5th Bank that was created for the
keyboard. The same relationship is true for the XL-7 ROM and XROM (XK-6
keyboard). The X-LEAD ROM has different presets and a different ID.
Confused?
