AWRIGHT.
I CREATE MAINLY DNB/JUNGLE (DARK, JAZZY, TECHY)
I NEED A MACHINE THAT CAN MAKE ME DOZE PHAT BEEFY-ENRICHED SNARES AND
DEEP HEAVY-BREATHING BASES THAT JUST CREEP AND BOUNCE NICE AND
SMOOTHLY. SOMETIMES SOME HARD HEAVY METTALIC BASS IS COOL TOO. I'VE
BEEN LOOKING FOR GOOD HARDWARE FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. MY
MIND IS ALMOST SET ON THE MP-7. I'VE CHECKED OUT THE XL-7,AND PEEPS
TOLD ME NOT TO GET IT FOR WHAT I LIKE MAKING SINCE IT IS MORE TRANCE
ORIENTED. ANY GOOD, HONEST SUGGESTIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE THESE
TWO MACHINES? ANY DNB ARTISTS USING EITHER OF THESE MACHINE? WHICH
ONE WILL SUITE MY PURPOSES MORE? JUST AFTER READING MANY THINGS
LATELY BOUT THE MP-7 I'M STARTING TO THINK IT HAS MANY PROBLEMS---I
DON'T LIKE TO SPEND TIME ON PROBLEMS WHEN I DONT HAVE TO. I GOT
ABOUT 1200 TO SPEND AND I'M NOT SURE IF I SHOULD GET AN MP OR XL-7
WITH A NICE E5000 ULTRA SAMPLER(USED),A CHEAP BEHRINGER MIXER
OR GET AN MC 909 OR RS7000 AND IS THE RS7000 OR MC 909 GOOD?
I'D REALLY APPRECIATE SOME ADVICE FROM YOU GUYS WHO REALLY KNOW BOUT
THIS STUFF. ANYTHING WOULD HELP. MY HEAD HURTS FROM GOING BACK AND
FOURTH ON MACHINES AND CHANGING MY MIND OVER AND OVER CAUSE OF GOOD
OR BAD REVIEWS. I'M SURE MOST OF YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS AND YOU
KNOW IT AINT FUN AND IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. I KNOW ITS PERSONAL
PREFERENCE, BUT THE THING IS....I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO GET ADVICE
FROM ANY DNB/JUNGLE ARTIST YET TO SEE WHAT THEY RECOMMEND DOR THIS
TYPE OF MUSIC. ALSO ONE THE COMMAND STATIONS, HOW CAN YOU SAVE YOUR

I'm selling an Audity 2000, it has the dark sounds your after. You should
really pick up something like this and fruityloops for your sequencer/sampler,
that way you get a kickass synthesizer with dark basses and crazy arpegiators
with the excellent sequencer and sampler in fruityloops. I have been doing DNB
trip hop and darker stuff for a long time, and this might be up your alley. Let
me know if your interested, US only though, it's crazy expensive to ship
overseas.

wow dude what is up with the caps?

Ok well I use a XL-7 and a E5000 with a 10 gig drive and 128MB of
ram. I love this set up. I have not spent alot of time with the MP
but from the time that i did spend I think that you would be better
off with the XL even though alot of the sounds are tech/trance'ish.

I truly dont think any synth is going to give you alot of the drum
sounds that you are looking for. Jungle is after all started off a
sampler based music, like hip hop. It's roots are in sampled drum
loops and hits riped apart and reconstructed. As for heavy bass
there is alot of it in the XL. I feel that the bass sounds in the
xl are truly one of its strong points.

As for the new 909 from what i have read it seems that it is still
rely buggy. I kinda wish that it where perfict becouse i get sick
of setting up program changes and setting up all the controllers for
my E5000. But it seems that there is alot to work out with that box.

And for the rs7000 I think that the sequencer in that box is great.
But the synth is very weak in comparison with the XL/MP's. There ya
go. Hope that helps more than confuzes.

You can email me directly if you have more questions about my setup.

This is in fact interesting. I myself have just decided to buy the
Audity 2000. I do a dark sort of trance and techno myself and have
found the soundset and arpeggios on the Xl7 to lean more to the "pop"
side. To my tastes, they just aren't heavy or have that "fuzzy" feel
i'm after. I love the sequencer and effects and the fact that you can
run an entire studio from it though. Grrr... so I'd buy back my XP30
in a heatbeat and want to buy maybe a triton or motif next after the
audity.

But the Audity 2000 is almost a pure subset of the XL-7, so if you
don't like the XL-7 the Audity doesn't have much to recommend it,
except that (i) it's smaller and (ii) it's very cheap at the moment.

Better to get an XL1 than an audity 2000

Even thought he Audity 2000 is a subset of the XL-1, the standard presets
for each do have very distinctive personalities. The Audity 2000 does have a
much edgier selection of presets. The group of preset programmers we used
for each project were different as well as given different design goals.
Technically you can put all of the Audity 2000 presets in to an XL-1 or
XL-7. There would be a about 2 minutes of re work required for each preset
ported over via sysex and you would need an A2K to grab the presets from.

Make sure you have any custom users presets backed up in your XL-7.

step 1: Dump any preset or whole banks from your Audity 2000's user
locations into the XL-7 via sysex. MIDI out of A2K to MIDI in of XL-7 and
then initiate a dump with the A2K. The banks or preset numbers will line up.

step 2: Once the preset is in the XL-7, you will have to reassign the
instruments for each layer and the Arp pattern. Basically anything that
points to the ROM. You will probably have to refer back to the Audity 2000
for assistance in referencing patterns and instruments.

step 3: Save your new preset. Keep in mind these new presets will be using
the Audity 2000 knob layout.

Re: AdV!Ce 0N Wh@T To GeT????

2003-03-18 by delltamale

This could be scripted, along with the conversion of the planet phatt
module presets. I'm sure that there is someone on this list with the
perl skills to do a mass conversion - all that we would need would be
the sysex documents for both modules. Has anyone seen these?

On a very slightly related note - is there a cc number for voice
soloing the presets? I've found that the majority of the presets are
too rich for my purposes, but sound really great if I turn off one or
two voices.

If this can't be done via cc numbers, a quick search and replace of
the patch sysexs would instantly make these accessible.

Is emu planning on releasing a librarian for the P2k engine? A simple
conversion of the p2k module for sound diver would be a godsend.

(Though the death of emagic pc platform might mean no new modules for
us pc'ers :/)

Even thought he Audity 2000 is a subset of the XL-1, the standard
presets
for each do have very distinctive personalities. The Audity 2000 does
have a
much edgier selection of presets. The group of preset programmers we
used
for each project were different as well as given different design
goals.
Technically you can put all of the Audity 2000 presets in to an XL-1
or
XL-7. There would be a about 2 minutes of re work required for each
preset
ported over via sysex and you would need an A2K to grab the presets
from.

All the samples have the same name, but the rom ID is different for each one
right? If I had a hex editor what would I have to do for each preset if I dump
it into say Sonar?
