I'm New At This!

I'm New At This!

Wuz up everybody! I'm seventeen years old and I'm about to get the MP-
7 Command Station in a few days. I have downloaded just a few parts
of the manual at www.emu.com, but I wanted to know from people who
already use it, if it is hard to use or do you think I will get the catch and
be able to start making songs within a few weeks.?

Well first upgrade the OS.. The manual follows the new release of the
OS. It took me about a week of messing around abit at night after
work to get thang of it. I still learn smoething new every day, but
ive also had alot of expereince with musical gear and sequencing in
gerneal, so it was a bit easier for me to interpret. I was pretty
confused at first and the manual is about the same.. so good luck and
feel freet ask your questions here...!:)

First off congratulations on picking out a great box. :)

I take it that this is your first stab at making electronic music?

This is a pretty deep box but there is alot that you can get to
right off the bat thanks to patterns that come with the box. I
would start working with them and see what you come up with before
you try and dive into the more complicated stuff.

I don't want to sound like i am putting you down or sompthing but
expect to get confused and frustrated at first. There is alot to
understand in this box. I have been making music with computers and
synths for eight years and I got frustrated a few times when I first
got this XL7 thing. But I love it to bits.

I wish you the best of luck. And as some one elts already said do
feel free to ask your questions here.

Peace

Mike G.

First of all welcome to our group, hope we can be of some help shoudl you
ever need it.

Well, not to sound like a broken record, but here's the same analogy I use
when ever anyone gets new gear and wants to kow how long it'll be before
they're making killer songs. The XX-7 is a musical instrument, and thus,
it takes time to learn how to "play", just like any other musical
instrument. You wouldn't pick up a guitar for the first time and expect
to be Jimi Hendrix a week later would you? Not trying to dampen your
spirits, just putting things in perspective. Keep at and read the manual
a fwe times and I'm sure in no time you'll be very familiar with the box
and making all sorts of great tunes. Just don't expect it to always be an
easy road, there's a lot to learn along the way...
