see it all started with one of my rubber keys. I kept get random notes,
but they only came from my C key, so I was thinking something went wrong
with one of the pads.. but I didn't know how to fix it, so, I ran the
diagnostic thingy. ... everything passed, but when I went to MFG (at the
time I had no idea what it was) so I ran that 2, but then the screen said
TO ERASE ALL DATA PRESS ENTER... there was no other choice, so I panicked,
and plugged out my machine. ( nothing else worked, and I wasn't about to
press enter) ..

now when I press play I get like loud randomness and the mp-7 doesn't
respond to anything I do,

to make things worse I bet that key is still going to be misfiring.. :(

please help or pray for me

RE:MP7 sequencing

2003-03-03 by Rick King

[Rick King] I am considering buying MP7 I love the sounds and everything
about the machine, but I am wondering about the sequencing. Can anyone
describe what it is like and whether it is similar to other sequencers
from other workstations or what? I use Sonar as my primary sequencer
now, but I prefer to use a hardware based one. In the past I have used a
motif, a triton and several ensoniq wkstns, prepared my tracks on them
and then recorded them to the computer to add my vocal tracks. I am
looking to do the same with this. I perform Christian hip-hop mostly.
Thanks.

Re: [xl7] RE:MP7 sequencing

2003-03-03 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

The sequencer will definitely be more basic than what you're used to in
Sonar. However the XX-7's really shine at letting you get ideas down
quickly, without having to stop to enter different record modes, or change
your sounds. The only real downside currently, is that the editing
options aren't very compreshensive compared to say an RM1x, mc909, or the
MPC series. However, there's a new OS on the way that will go some ways
towards alleviating this.

If I had to sum up the XX-7 sequencer, I'd say that it may not have every
single bell and whistle that some of the other hardware seqeuncers have.
But once you learn it, it's way more intuitive and faster to record and
manipulate your ideas. As always, your best bet is to try before you buy
if you can.

Re: [xl7] RE:MP7 sequencing

2003-03-03 by OutLaw1387@aol.com

There is nothing like a drum machine for laying down quick ideas. More
importantly I use Sonar and it's great, but for drum programming (at least
the initial idea) Drum Machines have sonar beat. I have a MP-7 and won't look
back to recording, re-recording, and re-re-recording in Sonar to get that
tight sound Drum Machines provide. Yes, the quantize featuer is tight in
Sonar. But the grid on a Drum Machine sequencer is Flawless. I create my
initial patterns on the MP-7 then transfer the midi file to Sonar, and
trigger the MP-7. I actually thought about going to the MPC series again
(once owned the MPC 3000) but went with the Mp-7 since I wasnt going to use
it for no more then a drum machine. For Sampling purposes I use Gigastudio
96, and trigger those drum sounds(imported from my Akai S5000 library) as
well with the MP-7. For Voices, String and everything else I use an external
keyboard. Needless to say with the 2 combined you have a very powerful
Sampler/ Drum Machine. Try that with any MPC Series, Groove box, Etc....Throw
in a GigaTranslator and I'm importing/exporting - to/from other Sampler
Formats as well.
whew.....
Hope that helps

Thanks Erik, I work for a music store and will defiantly try it before I
buy it! For some reason we don't carry the unit, but I will be special
ordering it. I like the boards that we do carry (MK6, Halo, Pk6 and XK6)
as well as the proteuos.

Thanks outlaw, I appreciate the insight. I have not done much with
sampleing so I have not used the gigasampler. May do so in the future
though, I do own a copy.
