Wow, I just listened to the mp3 demos on EMU's site. That Vintage_4
demo is funk nasty!!, even for a demo. I am definitely picking up one
of these. Will be my first one too :)

Vintage Rom

2003-11-25 by Christoph Kluxen

Hi,

what about the vintage rom? Do someone have it?

are there some dirty analog sounds on it, too? besides I heard some guitar
on the test mp3 on Emu page,
hope they are better as on the X-Lead Rom.

What´s the Pop Rom? Which one is in the proteus?

Thanx,
Christop

I bought the vintage rom a couple of weeks ago, its quite nice. There
aren't many guitar sounds though and the ones it does have aren't
that great... This rom is directed more towards keyboards. The organs
are spectacular, some of the best i've heard from a ROM synth, the
e.pianos are quite good also. The drums are good but lacking in
number. As for leads and basses, they're very nice, probably geared
more towards the raw/dirty side of analog, rather than the 'warm'.
The pads are excellent too. Overall, its a very strong rom.

I've been told that the Proteus Pop rom has some nice pianos and some okay guitars. Does the PP have slow wah wah guitar sounds? I love the wah wah.

No, but all a wah wah is a filter/EQ, so you could fake it with the Filter
Envelope and any number of filters on the XX-7.

Roms

2003-12-20 by Cornell

I just installed 3 roms into my mp7. I am like extremely happy to have finally purchased these roms. However, it's going to take me awhile to get used to them and figure out what I like and don't like. I'd like a shortcut to that. I'd like some feedback on what is liked and not liked on these three roms by those who possess them....World Expedition, B3 Organ, Proteus Pop. I bought the PP for pianos and guitars. I got the WE for exotic instruments. I got the B3 solely for Gospel music that I do but it might find its way into some other genre as well. Thanks in advance for the input. Peace!

The biggest thing I suggest is to get used to how the "Sound
Navigator" functions ... you have to start thinking about all of
those ROMs in your MP7 as a single collection. Don't just scroll
through the presets in numeric order, that just jumps around too
much, IMHO.

Cursor over to the preset type (kit, cmb, led, syn, etc.) and select
which TYPE of sounds you want to experiment with first, then cursor
over to the preset name and you can use the wheel to scroll through
all of the presets of that type. You'll quickly discover
the "keepers" from the "uhh, NOT" sounds for each preset type.

The pianos on the Proteus Pop are OK but not as good as the Coakley on the
ZR. However, the Rhodes are decent and can serve well with a little
tweaking. Also, I like some of the drums sounds on the Proteus Pop for
Gospel or instrumental jazz type songs. Happy expanding!

There is an orbit 3 yahoo group for users of the techno synth and
beat garden roms. It has demos in the files section and I am sure
some of the other members would be happy to give you more detailed
review of the rom. It might be worth checking out.

I saw that one. It was a lot of duplicates, and several flash ROMs. Two Protean Drums sets, IIRC. It was a high price, yes, but if you calculate the value of all the ROMS he was selling... it was like $2200 BIN, IIRC, and I calculated the value of the ROMs to be around $3600 at current prices.

I'm a fan of this ROM guide, personally
Btw, The Avenues's web site is up but I think no one is behind it anymore. I bought the Protozoa ROM from them probably a decade ago.  Great ROM, I find the Composer from the Proteus 2500 comparatively quite bland.

Thanks for the ebay guide link, that's helpful too.

Any price information is going to be a rough guide at best. The market is too volatile, and prices vary between countries as well (on modules, at least, perhaps less so on ROMs as they are easier to post internationally).

For detailed technical info on ROMs it's hard to beat this link: http://samplersonacid.com/legacy-emus-on-acid/download/Identifying+EMU+ROM+SIMMs+for+Proteus+2K+Family.doc

Yes, the price for the bulk lot was reasonable, but still a lot of money to drop in one go! :-)

Cheers,
A.

except, the prices he gives are several years out of date. Protean drums for $150? not in this decade.

I'm a fan of this ROM guide, personally
Btw, The Avenues's web site is up but I think no one is behind it anymore. I bought the Protozoa ROM from them probably a decade ago. Great ROM, I find the Composer from the Proteus 2500 comparatively quite bland.

Most do. Here's a good reference page:

http://www.theavenuesinstruments.com/emuroms.html

I found a guy selling EVERY single ROM ever made as a set somewhere a few days ago - for some obscene amount of money (many many thousands of euro). You'd need a half a dozen Command Stations just to install them all!

Cheers,
A.

@Jon Carroll- Did you ever receive the ROM from theavenueinstruments? I ordered one around the same time as you and never received mine. I sent them several emails and one to his PayPal email. no response. no delivery. I just today got my money back from Paypal after a long and empty wait. He didn't even respond to PayPal requests. Just wondering if your experience was the same.

I ended up finding a Proteus 1000 at my local GC for less, pulling the ROM, and sending the unit to my bandmate who had broken hos Proteus 2000

Was there any dialog between you and theavenueinstruments? how long did it take to receive? I really wanted one of those ROMS. I am going to assume he may have oversold what he actually had in stock. But, without Mr. Morrelli actually chiming in on this, I have no idea. Just rather disappointed to have to wait over a month to get my money back after never getting a response from him. The site has no phone number, and he doesn't answer support emails. Very unprofessional!
