Trying to update to new O.S..........

2003-02-18 by elmworks <elmworks@comcast.net>

Hi all,
First of all let me say that i am thankful for this group because it
is so helpful for someone like myself!!!
Anyway my story goes like this; I am trying to load O.S. 1.32 into
my MP-7 but it is not working!!!!!!!!!!!!
1st i load e-loader 1.1 then i hold down buttons audition and home
on mp-7 get the needed o.s. file click on download o.s. file to
target........ then i get a MIDI communication error saying no
device is detected. Is there a way to detect if my midi connections
are setup properly? Is there a way to tell if my system is sending
and recieving midi information?
Thanks to all....

Make sure you go to the MIDI Devices Setup in E-Loader and set the correct
midi port that your MP-7 is connected too. Don't forget that you can't
update the OS via USB yet, only MIDI. The MP-7 will show you it's
receiving the OS data too, if I remember correctly.

There are three different tools in E-Loader to help test your MIDI
connections.

The MIDI Tracker window will show incoming note and controller
information in a color-organ type view. Play your keyboard and you
should see the bars light up. You can test output from your computer
by clicking and dragging on the bars and it will send MIDI out on
each of the tracks. (you can also make some wild sounds that way too
:-)

There is the MIDI Monitor window which will show a textual display of
any incoming MIDI messages. There's a filter page so that you can
enable/disable some of the messages. For instance, the controllers
are turned off by default because they tend to come in faster than
can be displayed and will cause problems if for instance you were to
try to play a 16 track sequence with tons of controller data.

There is also the Scan Devices window which will send MIDI Device
Inquiry messages out the configured port and report any devices that
respond. This is a quick test of closed-loop operation, but it
doesn't really tell you which direction any problems may be occuring
in. You can repeatedly press the Rescan button and watch the MIDI
lights of the XL-7 and see if the In and Out lights flash.

My guess is that you haven't setup the In and Out ports correctly in
the MIDI setup dialog.
