You probably had either A) the audio track in cakewalk set to mono, or B) a bad cord? Some multitrackers require to seperate audio tracks to record in stereo, set one to left and one to right. The way Im recording it is the complete preset all onto one track.. Im not putting each track from the xl7 into a separate track on cakewalk. its all recorded onto one track. Soudns more like an issue with your software sequencer than with your XL-7
(which was what Byron was trying to say). Also, as Byron again mentioned,
be sure that both of you audio cables are working properly. If one of
them is bad, many mixers and sequencer will take the remaining one and
treat it as two mono sources, or vice versa.

Exactly, to be more specific, what I was trying to say was this.... In the track properties that you are about to record on, there should be some sort of button or something to press that will bring up the possible manipulations of your sound card while recording....it my say something like this SB GOLD! Mono L SB GOLD! Mono R SB GOLD! Stereo (l,r) and you select one, being sure to select stereo...make sense? If this is NOT the case, make sure that your you are using a stereo 8th inch adapter to go into your soundcard (assuming that it dosn't take duo quarter inch, which some do...mine actually takes a stereo quarter inch, plus four more in the addon card). Another oddity is that I actually HAVE seen some multitrackers that present the stereo file in such a way that it looks mono, even when it's not...although rarely. Cheap adapters can be futzy too, not always making a true stereo connection because it wasn't casted to the perfect size.... ByronIV
