Well if you get either one and a good stomp box tube distortion then you can
feed it out and back in through the secondary outputs... that'll give you some
nice processing for kicks etc. You might want to get the MP7 though, as it's
tailored a little bit less twords techno.

Just an opinion,
Andre

If you're going to buy the XLead ROM, then it completely doesn't matter
which unit you get. An MP-7 + the X-ROM = an XL-7. Likewise, the XL-7
+ the M-ROM = an MP-7. Just pick your favorite color, and you can get
the other ROM.

PS. make sure you get the MROM or XROM instead of the PurePhatt or
XLEAD ROMs, as the new versions are optimized for the command stations.

Optimized for x-7's? What am I missing in the XLEAD? (next can of worms)

Re: [xl7] XLEAD vs XROM

2003-02-13 by Aaron Eppolito

Well, we renamed it midstream, so it's possible you have the newer one.

Or course, the ROM that shipped with your Command Station is guaranteed
to be the right one. It's only if you bought the older expansion ROM.

Basically, if all 16 knobs do what they say on the front panel, you
have the right ROM. The ROMs from the Xtreme Lead 1 and the MoPhatt
are hooked up for 12 knobs, matching the front panel of that unit.

If you don't have the new one, it's no big deal, just that the presets
are different, and the knobs won't line up.

If you're comfortable opening up your MP-7, you could check the XLead
ROM to see if it has flash presets or not. Some do, some don't,
there's no functional difference to the user. If your XLead ROM has 4
little chips and 1 big chip, you could call E-mu service and ask (very
nicely) if they could reprogram it to the XROM. If your's has 5 little
chips, then you're stuck with the presets (unless you can find someone
with the other type to trade with).

Do note, however, that the XROM presets are different and in different
locations, so your patterns that use XLead presets, and user presets
that use instruments from the XLead ROM will no longer work.
