What part of "more than a month away" didn't you guys get? I just
finished the beta release a week and a half early! There'll be a few
weeks of QA to make sure that there aren't bugs, but then it'll be
released. Sorry to take a somewhat offensive tone (you know I usually
don't) but the rush to jump on the "E-mu is screwing us" bandwagon
  pisses me off sometimes...

As far as I have heard, OS 2 is due for release sometime in the next 2 weeks
or so...who knows for sure? Probably not even EMU. If it is though, going
from 1.32 straight to 2 should definately encompass either alot of
enhancements and/or bug fixes.

550$ I would say so, the only other hardware sequencer I would advise anyone
to buy would be an MPC2000 or later (the roland mc80 is sweet too, but not
near enough memory)...you wont find an mpc2000 for that cheap though, unless
its in BAD shape, or quick cash is needed.

Aaron, although some folks are getting antsy about the new OS, I must
declare that even with OS1.32, the XL-7 is in a league of its own. I
scour the web everyday, hunting for a different/better(?) piece of
equipment for my needs, but I come up empty handed every time. There
are a few quirks in the current OS that sustain my hunt, but news of
this supposedly massive OS update, which could possibly alter
the "feel" of working on the XL7, makes me quite excited. So thanks
for your difficult low-level programming efforts, and good luck with
the QA! When OS2.0 comes out, you can bet our frowns will turn upside
down. :-) (And therefore, you will become "Da Man")

Chill man, the new OS will be here soon enough. Aaron deserves a LOT
more respect than this. He's kept us very well informed.

He already is. 2.0 will just be the icing on the cake.

Couldn't agree more!!
I have owned an EX5 from it's first week of release and although I
still love this synth, there are some serious issues that Yamaha
never bothered to address, and never bothered to respond to the
relentless pleas on the web forums. On the other hand, companies
like EMU and Access (Virus), and people like Stephen Kay (Korg
Karma), are so in touch with their customers, that product support
has become my primary criteria when choosing new gear. I jumped at
the Yamaha EX5 when it came out just from listening to the hype
before it's release, but I will never buy anything from them again.
Now I am looking at buying an EMU E4 sampler. Obviously this is a
very capable device, but the only reason I considered it in the first
place was from the excellent support given to the Command Stations.
just my 2c

I've met a bunch of them from events such as Namm (The sampler guys) and they
were super nicce and very good about going through every concern with you. All
in all if I hadn't had my Yammy (Unsupported) A5000 smapler drop in my lap I
would've bought the Emu sampler in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't wait on new os as the deal finalizer...this already a very powerfull machine, new os should just make it better. I also would buy new, for 50 more it will be worth it because of latest software and manual updates are on the master cd shipping with newer units. For instance if you bought my mp7 it would include my master cd with the first manual and earliest os on that disk... thats what came with it. Both about 10 steps behind...

You guys need to chill-out. My main job is developing software. I
don't work for EMU - but I do know how long it takes to put out a
"Quality" software product. Putting out a major revision within one
year is serious work. If you strive for tighter time frame – the
customer normally pays through the nose. It would be good to keep
that in mind.
