Just wanted to pass on that I have been trying to install ELoader on my Windows ME powered Laptop. I see that it is using InstallAnywhere, which uses Java (I think). This laptop gets used a lot when I am at the customer site debugging their Java stuff. So it has JDK 1.3 on it. Any ideas what could be going on? Bruce

Is there any error reported? I had a report of problems when trying to install and there was a very down rev version of the Microsoft JVM on the machine. Updating to a newer JVM fixed it for that tester. But if you have the Sun 1.3 JDK on your machine, that should be fine. Scott

The problem is with the installer on this machine. Not sure about Eloader yet, have yet to get it installed. There is no error code, even when running the installer from the command line, also no errors in the java console. You're saying that you double-click on the file named ELoader_1.0_Installer.exe and absolutely nothing happens? No application launches, no error message? Note that the Installer itself is not a Java application, it is a native Windows application. It does not need Java in order to run. At some point in its work, it will want to access a Java VM, but if it can't find one, it should be able to tell you that it can't find one, just like any other Windows application that can't find a DLL or whatever. Maybe we should take this discussion off-list, because it sounds like there is some problem that is very specific to your machine. If we find some information that would be valuable to others, we can always post our summary findings. Scott

I want to know why the E-Loader software isn't a native Windows application... I don't know why, but I don't trust java 100%... I'm having trouble as well, it looks like the sysex messages get distorted all the time (both MIDI in and out), so there's no way to transmit a pattern from or to the XL-7. I didn't have that problem when I connected the Waldorf Microwave XTk to the same computer and made a couple of sysex dumps. Perhaps something with the soundcard. It's quite crappy thing. MPU- 401 btw. Perhaps something about the E-Loader software? I want to find out. All I hope is that it isn't my XL-7, it's enough buggy already... //Nifflas --- In xl7@y..., Scott Ruda <scottr@e...> wrote: > on 11/8/01 4:16 PM, bruce@s... at bruce@s... wrote: > > > The problem is with the installer on this machine. Can you tell me a bit more about your failure symptoms? You say sysex messages are getting 'distorted'. How are you coming to that conclusion? Are there error messages reported? Note that thousands of users are using E-Loader and it is working fine for the vast majority of them. The more information you give me the better I can help you figure out why your system is having problems. Scott

Scott, I ran into this same thing over the weekend (Although I'm using Win98se). E-Loader would occasionally not transmit my patterns to the XL-7 properly, or give me an error mesage saying the pattern was not successfully downloaded. If I rebooted the PC, then it would work fine. If this happens again, please open the Message Console, save the

This will help me understand what is going wrong.

You are bound to have problems if you have two MIDI programs open at the same time trying to access the same ports. You just can't do that in Windows, unless you use Hubi's Loopback or some other special software. Is that what you are doing? Does E-Loader work reliably for you when don't have any other MIDI programs running? Scott

Yeah, I figured that was true, so I closed Cubase, waited a few minutes and tried it again. Still didn't work. If I either run an audio app that requires the MIDI port, or run E- Laoder once previously, I need to restart my computer in order to run it again. Kind of a pain when you want to upload a file to Cubase to edit a small part for instance and then downlaod it back into the XL.... realm You are bound to have problems if you have two MIDI programs open at the same time trying to access the same ports.
