[xl7] question on saving a preset

[xl7] question on saving a preset

2003-01-13 by jm213213@aol.com

Lets say I quickedit and save a preset.. k-1... And I save it under the user
presets.. what happens if I quickedit that same preset and want to save it
again.. Do I have to save it under another instrument or how does that
work?..

Yes you have to save it as a seprate instrument, otherwise it will
just write over the old one. Of course if you wanted to overwrite
the old one then go ahead and save it to the same location. Same
logic as with saving patterns, songs etc...

Once you save over an instrument its gone. Of course the ROM
banks will always be there so you'll always have the original
factory presets. But anything in the User section is gone once
you write over it.

as many times as the number of instruments there are in the user bank?

Yeah kind of. Basically, anytime you use the quick edit knobs to change a
Preset, you have to save it to a new User Preset location in order to save
the changes. You have 4 banks of 128 Presets to do this, that's a lot!!!!
Don't worry about over-writing one of the Presets that comes (from the
factory) in those locations, they are the same as the Presets in the XL-7
bank. But, if you write over one of the Presets YOU quick edited and
stored there , then you're screwed. That's why it pays to back up your
Presets to another sequencer via sysex, and to do it often! Saved my ass
(err, my sounds really) that way a few times now....
