The XL-7 factory presets all use virtual controller A to control Fc. You
can assign that to a MIDI controller number in the Global menu (this is
for both Transmit and Receive). The E5000 presets similarly typically
use a virtual controller to control Fc, typically A also. Likewise you
can set the MIDI controller number assigned to A in the E5000's
Master->Midi menu. Just set them to the same MIDI controller number.

Simple, right?

CC issue

2001-11-04 by mikexl7@yahoo.com

I am trying to use an E5000 to layer sounds up in conjunction with
the XL-7 and am getting no where no matter who i ask.

This is a basic example of what i am wanting to do.

Lets say i have a preset in the XL on chanel 1. And a preset in the
E5000 on chanel 1. All i am trying to do is use the quick edits on
the XL to control the filter cutoff in both the presets.

Simple right?

Well not so simple as far as i can tell. For some unknown reason the
E5000 only alows me to select up to controller #31 (like this is not
odd enuf). The CC's in the XL for all the quick edit knobs are hard
fixed and can not be changed to accomadate the sampler.

Now this is honestly making my head spin at this point i have called
tech support at E-MU and talked to the people that sold it to me and
the best answer i get involves me running my midi out through the
sampler and off the through on the sampler back into the XL. this is
just stupid. And on top of it i am using the Through for other
things.

I just want this fo work, am i asking too much here? this should be
a simple thing should it not?

If anyone has any ideas for this question i want to hear from you !!!

Peace

Mike

Actually, on XL-7 these assignments are in the Controllers Menu. (They're in
the Master menu in all the 1U modules).

Dude you are so right!!!!!!!!!

Thank you soooooooooo much for straightening me out on that one.
I am so relived that I can't even tell you. I just assumed that if i
changed the controller # in the REALTIME CONTROLLER# window that it
would actualy change the internal settings as well. That is a big
one off my head and I am totaly glad that there is a simple soulution
to that issue. Now I can set up the A-H controllers on the E5000
once and for all and just not worry about it again.

Thanks again.

Mike

It does change internal settings as well. MidiA will always do what MidiA
says in the patchcords section (usually Fc) no matter what controller number
you set it to, however, note that it will record this new controller number
into sequences. Other than that though, you should have no problem
whatsoever.
