Hello all, it is clear that I am a XL-7 newbie that started sequencing with it extensively today! Therefore I have another question that is not solved by reading the manual. I have a nice pattern that I want to convert to a song. The only thing I have to do to make a song out of the pattern is let the pattern run for a lot of times and do some track mutes and un-mutes when I need them. Very simple procedure but I can't seem to get it done on the Xl7?? Is it possible?

If you are not going to be changing patterns within the song. You could stay in pattern mode and set the Knobs to volume control, or just mute the tracks via the track buttons. Which could get confusing if you get distracted. I like the volume knobs for the simple live thing. But if I am playing guitar. I don't have a lot of free time or hands to be tweaking and pushing. Hold out to hear what the gurus in the group have to offer. -Greg --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "synthman2003 <rgerards@h...>" <rgerards@h...> wrote: > Hello all, > > it is clear that I am a XL-7 newbie that started sequencing with it > extensively today! You can create your song as long as those track mutes/unmutes are at least one bar in length. In song record mode you insert patterns one after another for any duration you like, but at least one bar (as far as I can tell). If you can manage your song with track mutes of at least a whole bar you can do exactly what you are asking. You just insert that pattern over and over in it's varied form until you have what you want. You may have to pencil it out as it is easy to get lost a couple hundred bars down the line. Definetly in the manual under Song Record Modes. -S drK <drk@...> wrote:On 12/31/02 1:39 PM, "synthman2003 <rgerards@...>" <rgerards@...> wrote: > Hello all, > > it is clear that I am a XL-7 newbie that started sequencing with it > extensively today! indeed, that was my point, when I have a pattern with a lenght of 8 bars it is not convenient to make seperate "break" pattern of one bar just to be able to mute the bass drum or something for 1 bar, that sucks, I just want live realtime mute recording favourably with a quantise ability so you can straight everything out in case you missed a mute by a millisecond!

If you could trim an entire pattern easily...it would be a workaround. But I don't think you can do that either, can you? Like an 8 bar pattern...make it start at bar 6 and end at 8....etc.

You don't have to, you can specify a shorter pattern length for each Song
Step. So if you have an 8 bar pattern, you can specify that it should
only play the first bar before going to the next pattern step.

Sure but what if you wanted the kick to come out on the second measure? If you just make a 2 measure pattern then start it again with the kick out then the whole pattern has to start from the 1 again, not good if you have something like an 8 measure pattern and you want tracks coming in and out during that one loop. Better to just have real time mute record. They could be stored as an event in the song track and there could be a setting telling whether or not they have priority over the normal mutes. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, erik_magrini@B... wrote: > You don't have to, you can specify a shorter pattern length for each Song > Step. Oh, I definitely agree it would be better to have real time mutes, don't
get me wrong! :) I was just telling him that you don't ahve to edit your
patterns to make them shorter in song mode, albeit as long as you don't
mind using the first bar of the pattern every time :)
