The numbers on my main screen wether its presets or patterns jump around when I am using the dial. It will jump back numbers. Then I have to slow down to a really slow speed to get to where I am going. Do I have to recalibrate. I did get a couple expansion roms?

I am having the same problem. I think I will try Some TV TUNER cleanning solution . . Or maybe RuBBING ALCOHOL - ANY THOUGHTS? ----- Original Message -----

I think in started happening after I started adding roms. I think recalibrating is the key. --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "David DeciBel" <spec@s...> wrote: > I am having the same problem. I suspect this is a very common problem with the XX-7's , my last XL- 7 did it, I sent it in and they repleaced it with a new XL-7. After a couple of months my new machine started to do it again. Might be some problems about the XX-7 hardware itself. Also, some buttons is getting bad. When I buy the MC-909, I will use the XL-7 as sound module only, then I will not suffer much from the weird data wheel and buttons. //Nifflas --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "David DeciBel" <spec@s...> wrote: > Not mine...It's been doing it for about 4 months now.. I had the jumping numbers a couple of times, but it went away after
rebooting the MP-7. I can't readily duplicate the problem. I assume
it is an operating system issue -- maybe it will go away in the next
version.

Billy, Here was a message in the archives from September. From: "emufreak1" <mmcquay@m...> Date: Sun Sep 8, 2002 3:31 pm Subject: Re: My XL-7 is getting weird... Nifflas, There is a device connected to the data wheel called an encoder. That is what's going bad. What I do on mine is to apply slight pressure on the indentation(on the wheel)while turning in either direction. That eliminates the jumping for me. Alvin, It is not an OS issue, it is the encoder. M2,
I see your point. I have a different problem with the system.

I have the fortunate convenience of having a good friend that happens to be one of the best techs in the midwest. he looked at the encoder and jiggled it and said "looks like a piece of crap encoder..." - he said that basically it's cheaply made and so on. We sprayed some sort of lube on it which didn't really help. Now I don't know if he's just kinda second guessing or what, but I would like to get this fixed... My unit is no longer under waranty. Anyone know of a way to get a better quality encoder? EMU peeps? I wouldn't want to replace it knowing that it might go out again in 6 months... Thanks... Everything else is great... ----- Original Message -----

Friends - for the record (at least from my experience) the jumpy numbers thing is the wheel/encoder, not the OS. I had those replaced on my P2k and E4 - however - that was only after several years of heavy use. Not so bad really. Mechanical stuff wears out. Get it replaced and you should have no problems for a long time. However - this is the reason that I harp on the playpads-as-numeric- keypad OS option = an alternative way of entering values if the wheel goes down. peace and goodwill gv --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "David DeciBel" <spec@s...> wrote:

An alternative way of entering values would be [---------THIS--------- ] important for me, because my data wheel is really bad right now!! Please include this in the next OS! //Nifflas

I know what you're referring to with your idea, and think its a good one. Keep in mind though that the key pads already to work as an alpha-numeric entry method when you are in any naming field. Use the transpose buttons to access more numbers and letters. Just a heads up for those that may bot have realized this. rEalm However - this is the reason that I harp on the playpads-as-numeric- keypad OS option = an alternative way of entering values if the wheel goes down. Thanks rEalm - but again just to be clear (even for my own understanding) the function that you refer to is for naming only - the alphnumeric keypad thing as it is currently employed will not work for entering parameter values.(? correct?) I would love to see this: hitting 2 buttons (tba - for ex. Track/enable + Preset or?) simultaneously changes playpads C - A to 0-9; A# is (-); B is (+) and high C is ENTER - which also functions as EXIT alphanumeric mode and return to playpad mode. The E4 has the backup option of being able to plug in a QWERTY keyboard as an alternative to the wheel. But the Command stations have those great pads just waiting to be fully exploited. Just a thought - but a lifesaver if the wheel goes down at the wrong time - and a much easier way of switching patterns for live use (you come to understand intuitively that (C-E-E + hi C) means "044" etc. But hey I am not complaining - I LOVE the XL7 it is a killer machine that I am sure will continue to improve with time. gv
