Sorry, don't know the answer to your other questions.

When recording in grid mode is it possible to stop the editor from 
moving to the next 16 steps unless it is told to do so.
For example, I am recording a pattern made up of 64 steps.  I want to 
add a few hits to steps 5 and 15.  I record on step 5 but then the 
sequencer gets ahead of me and I have to wait until it comes around 
to the first 16 steps again before I can record step 15.
Does this make sense??  Is it possible to manually move the song 
position when in Grid record mode?

Not yet, but that is a much asked for feature.  I too would like to see 
this implemented.
