I just ran across an error (forgot to record it) but it said my pattern could not be saved. Last I checked I had 67% memory left. . . Then it asks if I want to compact data. This isn't in the manual, but should I be "compacting" more often? Looks like it's fine now. What does this do? anyone??

A compacting prompt is sort of like an automatic backup, it depends on how much you use the machine and also how often you save data. Exactly. It's not an error, just an informational prompt. As the system writes data, it eventually needs to "defragment" flash memory. This usually takes most users many months to occur. You can't do it manually. The only reason it gives you a prompt at all is because it takes the sequencer offline. If you get it and need to keep performing, you can just cancel the prompt, but you won't be able to save until you allow it to compact. -Aaron --- M2 <mmcquay@...> wrote: > A compacting prompt is sort of like an automatic backup, it depends > on how much you use the machine and also how often you save data. > --- In xl7@y..., "David Jones" <spec@s...> wrote: > > I just ran across an error (forgot to record it) but it said my > > pattern could not be saved. Ouch, I get that every few weeks! :) Also get the situation where saving a pattern can take a few minutes too, instead of a second. It's easy to freak out when you see this stuff, but if you just let it sit for a couple minutes then it'll be fine. I agree a mention of this should be somewhere in the manual though, it's fairly important and not all users have the benefit of this forum. rEalm Exactly. Wild, man, wild. Props to the EMU guys. The MP-7 is the central unit controlling my whole live/studio setup at the moment. I have been using it for about 6 months now and I feel that I have come to just about master this machine in the style of the ninja. ez ----- Original Message -----
