When is the new OS is coming out???

When is the new OS is coming out???

2002-11-13 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Uh oh! Thus it starts! I'll jump on this bandwagon though, when can we
see a new OS? :)

I have to agree with the last poster's comment though, it'll probably be
after the new year that we see OS2, I imagine they'll wait til NAMM to
announce it. So maybe January/February?

Will this stop the sequencer, or will things keep running?

We will be releasing a minor release with in the next two weeks, OS
1.32. This will include a few bug fixes, including the arp interval bug,
and two new features.

Restart/Fire key combo: hold play and press stop as often as you
want to restart the current sequence or instantly start playing the
queued sequence

* Quick Erase track feature: while not in list edit, grid edit or step
edit, holding erase and pressing a track button will erase all events
on that track, even while recording.

We will be showing 2.0 os at winter NAMM (Mid January). It will ship
shortly after that.

On the behalf of Emu, I shall offer up the following gurantees in regards to
a time frame in which you can expect to see the new OS

1.It shall occur sometime between November 2nd and November 3 2001. That's
right, brand new time machine technology that developed out of the morphing
filter technology that EMU developed (morphing filters were later attributed
to simply morphing time) will be first used in regard to the new OS. Don't
worry, they know that you are missing the new OS at this momment, but any
second now, all you'll know to have existed is OS v 6.0 (yep, jumping a nice
5 full versions ahead)

2.You can rest assured, you will have the new OS sometime before Sadam gives
up weapons of Mass Destruction.

3.And don't worry, though religious zelots may be right on about the 2nd
coming, you will have the new OS before the return of Christ. (I mean, EMU
has to do something or other to prove to God their worthy of being saved.)

Respects,

          Aaron Nesby

Knew you guys would like that one. =)

After repeatedly hitting Pattern Edit, dialing to Erase Track,
selecting the track, pressing enter twice, and restarting the
sequencer, I decided to add this if for nothing else than to make my
life easier!

Hehe, thanks. It's always nice to put a name, and an awesome voice!
(http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/101/aaron_eppolito.html), on what's
buried under the hood of a synth. Adds to the mystique. :)

Just curious, is the XX-7 OS written in C, assembler or what? What
is the development platform? I understand the ColdFire is a distant
relative of the MC68000.

Will there be more sophisticated editing functions? The ability to
swap tracks, choose events to edit by range (note, velocity...), that
sort of thing?

Thanks again for the nice support.

Hey, thanks! I actually just took a quick look at the
www.mp3.com/AaronEppolito site today for the first time in quite a
while. I never did getting around finishing it. Yeah, I'm kinda an
oddball when it comes to intrests. Everyone looked at me wierd when I
told them I was getting a Computer Science BS degree along with my
Vocal Performance BFA degree.

Mostly C++. The Coldfire is actually a pretty close relative of the
68k with a bunch more features that make it more of a standalone CPU.

I suppose it might include some stuff like that... =)

What ever happens I will wait until January I was thinking about
converting to MC-909 but I will hold that thought for the next 2
months.
I can wait, and I hope it will be worth the time.

Thank you EMU we all appreciate your hard work

Re: [xl7] When is the new OS is coming out???

This message is for Sean and anybody else at EMU who could use a raise. I
can and will wait patiently for new OS (the major one) and can only hope
you all see fit to add my request for a third function for "triggers" That
being the ability to make the trigger (with it's channel and preset)
pressed the "basic" and therefore active one. This would without a doubt
make your command stations, with any midi keyboard, THE premier controller
on the planet and thus a must buy for any keyboard player that's out there
who plays live...means sales sales sales (thats where your raise comes in)
Just bought a PK-6 and this has that ability without the slick midi
assignment option, being able to send ext, int, or both on any midi channel
the user chooses. No controller out there can send on more than 4 channels
and some combo of layering. The command stations with this added option I
speak of, could control just about any combo of 32 channels with a push of
1 trigger key, each seq or multisetup could have another setup combo stored
an ready to go. You have a whole new market of potential buyers, who for
nearly the same price, can only control a fraction of that and WITHOUT any
sounds to boot. For those of our group who do live dance or electronica
with sequences can bebefit as well by being able to access any of their
presets at will, real time(with 1 push of a trigger..now you have to push
the track/channel button to desired track, select preset so it's
active...so long spontinaity and instant inspiration) and create on the
spot, select a different preset and tweak the knobs, the live possibilities
are immense......I see big $$$ in your rosey future....if only you see fit.

Re: When is the new OS is coming out???

2002-11-14 by reconehelmut

Someone may have already said this but....

Does EMU have any plans to make it easier on those of us who use
the XX-7 strictly as a sound module, never touching the sequencer.
As it is now, I have to create patterns with a little bit of data on
them so that I can save my presets where I want them. It would be
really nice if there was a way to set it up like a bank on an E4
sampler - where you just choose the presets you want on each midi
channel and save the bank....rather than dealing with the patterns.
Sortof a bank mode or something.

Also, while I have your attention, can I use the old 8 output
expander in my E6400 with the RFX card or do I have to buy the new
RFX output jammie?

thanks for your time,

Not sure I completely understand your requirements, but I think you should
investigate the Multisetups. Each multisetup lets you save the preset
assignments for all 32 synthesizer channels in the XX7, as well as things
like control panel assignments, effects settings. So it is an easy way to
capture the entire state of the XX7 for later recall. Very similar in use
to a Korg Combi or a Yamaha performance. You have sixty-four of these
storage locations. One great use is a templates for starting a new project
with your typically used sounds pre-assigned to channels.

Man, I wish I had that power! Hmmm, I don't like this aspect of my

that after erasing the track, other times they won't...

The XL-1 doenst have the knobs or the pads though.... Just cause I
dont want to use the sequencer, doesnt mean I dont like the layout
of the XL-7.... I use it to control my bass stations, and the E6400
too...

Re:multisetups

Yeah, you can load them by sending a special program change command.
Bank select MSB 80 (decimal) LSB 0, and program change 0-63 will call
up multisetup 0-63. By the way, if you're using a software sequencer,
why not just set the program changes up from within that and save them
with the sequence?

Yeah, it's kinda cool. I do have to do that sort of stuff on my own
time though! The light problem will still occur for tracks erased with
the two menu commands (as it's hard to tell if everything got erased
when using those functions) but with the Quick Erase thing, the light
will behave properly (even while recording!).

Re: [xl7] Re:multisetups

Ah! That reminded me of something I meant to ask you guys (I keep
forgetting though). Are there any sysex or midi commands I can enter into
an external sequencer that tell the XX-7 to automatically send Banks of
Presets? Having to wait around to select a new User bank after the first
one is done is a pain. I'd like to just set up a single midi track with
the commands spread out far enough so that I can press play and walk away
while SX saves all my Presets, from all banks. Possible?

I think so. Check the P2K sysex manual, there should be one. Hmmm,
actually I just checked myself, and there may not be one. There is
however a Preset Dump Request that will get one preset at a time (pg16)

F0 18 0F dd 55 11 04 xx xx yy yy F7
dd == device ID
xx xx == preset number
yy yy == ROM ID (00 00 for user)

I think this might work, but it could take a while.

them with the sequence?

I only want the multi to be chosen via MIDI when playing live.
Everything in my rig gets program changes from my E6400 which runs
sequences created in Cakewalk. That way, I hit one button and
everything loads up the correct sound... At home, I would want to be
able to leaf through these song setups without needing to run the
sequence... does that make sense?

multisetups

2002-11-30 by pocketd@gmx.de

Hi,

there´s something about multisetups I still don`t understand:

a multisetup is a group of parameters depending on the sound settings of the
internal module, so
for every pattern, or say for the next song you should have an own
multisetup to setup all the 32
channels, menues etc., right?

Multisetups change the Presets, Global etc. for every pattern on my XX-7, is
that normal?
I don´t believe it´s normal, cause if I restore the factory setup, there are
lot of different
configurations for all my patterns.

So, I read there´s a way to setup a multisetup via midi or in songmode, do u
do it this way?
Do u save both multisetups and patterns, whenever you change in one of there
menues.

Well,
I hope never to talk about that setups again,
Chri

Ah yes, the all elusive enigma of the multi-setup....it does it to me
too...I thought I had it working at one point (ie, patches would be saved to
there respctive tracks on seperate patterns, differeing from one pattern to
the next) But perhaps I had had a bit to much of the halfling's leaf at that
time, because it dosnt seem to work anymore. If this is an 'intentional'
issue, as in, it suppossed to work like that, I hope it's something that's
taken care of in OS2, because it literally keeps me from using any of the
internal sounds all together, it gets way to frustrating. Until then, I'm
sticking with my external gear. I had even started working on a track for
the 'contest', but ended up giving up in a frustrated rage, since every time
I would start the beast back up, I would have different sounds loaded into
my tracks! ARG!

RE: [xl7] multisetups

Multisetups, ah the joy of multisetups! I think a lot of people are
getting them confused with patterns, the two have nothing to do with each
other ultimately. A Multi is nothing more than a "snapshot" of all the
XX-7's settings at the moment you save the Multi. This included effects,
presets, arps, Midi and global settings. When you recall a multi, it will
take priority of any Pattern specific settings currently being used, but
only until you switch to a new Pattern, or Return the current one (Stop
x3).

When you turn on the XX-7, it loads up the last multi you used, then it
loads up the 000:0 Pattern (I believe, emu correct me if I'm wrong). So
you're probably better off not saving a pattern to the very first location
to make life easier. That way, when you scroll to the new pattern, it's
settings will be loaded and used, and not the multi's.

Well,

perhaps I`m getting stupid, but it don´t works the way you explain, if I
save a multisetup, it
changes all soundsettings in every pattern on my XX-7, and it does not
change if I switch the
pattern,

thanx a lot, but there seem to be some others here, who have the same
problem as I have,
do you still have the factory patterns on board, rEalm?
The only way to get my setups again is to use restore factory setup in the
global menue.

Do you perhaps have the some of the MIDI setting set differently and saved
with the Multi? If you had the tracks set to EXT when you saved that
multi, I think that might cause some issues with the wrong presets not
being selected when you change patterns. After you do a Restore Factory
Setup, try saving a new Multi and see if that works.

I noticed a bug with Multisetups recalls with XL-7 OS 1.33

If you restore a multisetup, the preset soundsetting are changing : It soun=
ds like ...a bug...
The workaroud is the followings :

#1 Stop the sequencer [Stop] : it seems like not possible to change mutisep=
tup while running a pattern.
#2 Change the preset to one other (e.g. -1)
#3 Recall your preset back (+1)
#4 Restart sequencer [Play]

Your soundsettings must be OK after that.

Note : those restrictions are not necessary when re-loading after changes t=
he current multisetup.

Maybe it helps?!

If you just hit stop three times after you change the multi, it should do
the same thing.
