I have one. It is a very good phrase sampler with excellent effects. it is not as great a sequencer. They can be had very inexpensively and the Urban Dance Rom card is very good as well.

Glad you brought this up. Do you think that the 'Ensoniq Project' ROM card
for the XX7 would be a good addition to a XL7? It supposedly combines the
'Urban Dance' and 'Real World' ASR ROMS. Or does it overlap a lot with the
stock XL7 samples.

I don't know anything about the Real World rom. The UD does not overlap the XL7/1 stock sounds at all. It is more hip hop oriented. It has lots of drumkits and a bunch of loops which although good, I find a little wasteful. it has a complement of standard analog synth sounds too. Mostly it is a good set of drums. There are couple of transwave loops in there which are pretty cool. There may be some demo mp3s floating around at Emu. Maybe in the archives section. Else track down an asrx with the card in it and try it out. For the money it wouldn't be worth it alone, but with the Real World Rom sounds as well, then it may make sense.

I would try an ASR X, because it has some features that the xl7 doesnt
have, especially the transwaves. transwaves are bit like waldorf wavetables.
ive owned an ensoniq ts10 and the transwaves were the thing i liked most
about its synthesis.
i dont know what emu has made of the transwaves, but as far a i know the
xl7 is not capable of playing back transwaves. i guess you have only one
waveform then, so you cannot create those special modulations the asr x can.
im not shure, but i think the asr x can not create transwaves out of
samples anyway.

for those emu people out there :
its a shame that you didnt include the following ensoniq synthesis
features into the proteus 2000 synthesis
1. transwaves
2. hyperwaves
3. the dp fx

if you ever make a new groovebox, please include these things and of course
a sampler. this would blow away every mpc, mc, or rs groovebox out there.

The Urban Dance rom is the bomb it has alot of the Jazzy Jeff and
Masters at Work signature sounds.

I use the red ASR-X midi to an MP-7 with this combo I have'nt turned
on my MPC in over 3 months.

So pick up the rom for the xx-7 you will love it.

Here is a link to EMu to the 8-output expander for $99

I'm having the same problem maybe a bug , because I can change the
presets on my roland jx-305 that I also have hooked up.
