To make this work though using the included kit instrument files is probably
not the easiest way. Emu has generously included additional instrument
files in the PRC category which are individual samples of each instrument.

One question about that, it seems there are more sounds in the drum kits
than individual drum
sounds and some of them are really more interesting.
I really hate that drum kits always looking at that describtions of drumkits
downloaded from the
Emu site having all the wrong instrument numbers.

Till now I didn´t really find a bass drum that did convince me, perhaps I
should layer it with a
sine drum to get more realistic kind of sound with mid and deep frequency,
but I still didn´t hear
thousands of sounds on my EMU 5000. But they convince me more, much more.
I´m searching
of a big beat.

Layering is always the way to go for big beats, I layer all my drum hits
in the XX-7. Usually 2-3 kicks, 2 snares, 2 HH's each (CHH & OHH).

yes it is a bit hard to determine what is and is not included in the
individual percussion samples from the kits. You can always use a kit for
one of the layers as long as you don't need that sampled played over more
than one key. Certainly a restriction but also maybe a work around for some
cases.

Layering is by far your best chance for enhancing the sounds of one
instrument. For key element like the kick maybe it is wise to use a full
four layer approach just for it? Not only do you get four different samples
potentially to work with but also four Z-Plane filters. A lot of potential
within those!

One last thought since you have the Emu 5000. I realize this is not the
most inexpensive approach, but why not make up a lot of custom drum sounds
on the Emu 5000 from a variety of sources using layering and what-not,
resample those and then burn a FLASH card for the XX7?
