Using Layer / Links / Presets

Using Layer / Links / Presets

2002-10-28 by bougotop xavier

Hi list,
i want 2 make a large drum kit using the preset links
capabilities. i thought i would be able 2 link 2
preset, splitting the keyboard like this
c2 d2 one snare preset
+octave
i got c2 d2 the other snare preset
don't know if people understand me :-((

In the other hand, is there a way 2 take one note and
active something 2 make all his variations (pitch)
only along the keyboard (ie not having snare next 2
clap next 2 hat, but only snare at multiples pitch
modulations.

voila.

This is a good start to overcoming the limitation on no-user-kits in the
XX7. Use the link-preset features as you have mentioned as well as the four
layers in each preset. Up to 12 separate drum or percussive sounds can be
assembled this way, including each having its own range of the keyboard to
respond as appropriate (including pitch shifting) and things like separate
filtering, tuning, effecting...

To make this work though using the included kit instrument files is probably
not the easiest way. Emu has generously included additional instrument
files in the PRC category which are individual samples of each instrument.
So, for example, there are quite a few kick and snare instruments to choose
from. Poke around in those and see if they do what you are looking for.

Also, with this type of approach to drum kit programming remember that *any*
instrument file along with suitable synth programming is fair game for
making a "drum" sound. Lots and lots of potential lying in wait!

Hi,

Having both velocity and pressure as control sources is useful.

Yes,I´ve got to play a bit with pressure to get a feeling for it.

One last thought since you have the Emu 5000. I realize this is not the
most inexpensive approach, but why not make up a lot of custom drum sounds
on the Emu 5000 from a variety of sources using layering and what-not,
resample those and then burn a FLASH card for the XX7?

Yes, perhaps U wonder why I already have a 5000 sampler as a beginner, but I
was frustrated
learning with the 5000 Ultra, I even wasn´t possible to set a controller,
terrible, so I got that XX-7
and it made it much easier, and what I learn on that I can use easily on the
5000.
The main difference (except that it´s a sampler) using presets on the 5000
is the possibiliy to
create multisamples as that drumkits on XX-7, besides in my opinion the 5000
sounds a bit softer
than that dirty yellow bitch. There are morph-filters on the 5000 with more
controls, but don´t ask
me what they do... Also sample and drumloop synthese.

yes, burning flash roms would be a way to keep the sampler at home, besides
I will need it to save
Presets on the XX-7, I see the Rom is getting full.

Thanx,
Chr
