Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

Hi,

I am considering purchase of an XL7/MP7 as a big upgrade
from my DR202.  Those small compact drum machines don't do
what I need.  Before I drop a lot of money, though, I have
some questions that maybe you all can help me out with.

First, a bit about what I create.  I play heavy, fast punk
rock.  I do vocals and play guitar through an amp, and currenlty
use a DR202 for bass and drum parts.  I really only need one drum
kit - something that sounds like a real acoustic rock kit or at 
least fairly close.  And of course something that sounds similar to
a five string electric bass.  Further, as I am writing my own
songs, I need lots of memory for songs and patters.  I'm limited
now to maybe 5-6 patterns per song, which kinda sucks when you
have only 100 user defined presets and 19 songs total.

I have been reading through the literature from emu.com, and if
my computer doesn't crash on it I'll be printing the manual to
review later today.  Can you all clarify some things for me:

1) How many patterns can I create myself?  
2) How many songs can I create myself? How many patterns can a
song have
3) Can the amount of songs/patterns be expanded by adding memory or 
something like that?

4) are there sounds similar to a rock drum kit and an electric bass?

5) this is just a bonus - with six outputs, can the bass and drums be 
sent to different amps?  Say I wanted to send the bass line directly 
to a bass amp and send the drum beats to a PA, without them bleeding 
over onto one another?  It would mimic more of a live band sound.  Is 
that possible?

As you can tell, I really need three things:  lots of space to make 
up my own patterns/songs, one drum/bass setup that will serve my 
needs, the ability to edit the hell outta that drum kit to make it 
sound good.

Is either the XL7 or MP7 a good route to go?

99 patterns plus a 16-channel linear song track up to 999 bars long

The XL-7/MP-7 ships with a utility called E-Loader that allows you to back up
your machine to a Mac or PC.

You'd probably find more of them in the MP-7, but take a look through the
patchlists for each box.

Absoulutely.  Each track or preset has an option to pick a subout, explicitly
for this use.

All those knobs up there are great for editing sounds...
